Pirate Book 7 causes fake Pottermania in Latin America
Our friends at HarryLatino.com are alerting us this morning that fans in several Latin American countries, including Ecuador, Bolivia, Peru and Venezuela, are concerned about a pirate edition of Harry Potter Book 7 that is being sold in the streets. It is very serious, because the fraud extends over several countries and some fans have been fooled into thinking that it is the genuine Harry Potter Book 7, leaked and translated into Spanish.
The fake book reportedly costs between $7 and $10 and it is entitled 'Harry Potter y la Sombra de la Serpiente' (Harry Potter and the Shadow of the Snake). Some bookshops are displaying posters for this fake book, assumedly believing that it is the real Harry Potter Book 7. One of these posters is pictured above.
HarryLatino.com has learned that this book is really fan-fiction that was written by a Spanish fan and published on the internet. The writer of the fan-fiction discovered a few days ago that her work is being printed and sold in other countries, and she is sad and worried, because people have accused her of plagiarism. However, she only meant for the story to be distributed for free on the internet, and has never made any money off the story.
HarryLatino.com has contacted the Christopher Little Agency and they are now working on the matter, bringing Warner Bros. and also Spanish publisher Salamandra in on the case as well.
