The next Harry Potter: Back to the future or the past?
The Harry Potter books are done. Should J.K. Rowling write some new books that also involve the world of Harry Potter? Or, in the words of the Beatles, should she Let It Be?
And if she does write some new books about Harry's magical world, what should they be about? Would you like to read books about Albus Severus Potter and his adventures at Hogwarts? Or would you like to know more about the times of James, Sirius and Remus? How about going all the way back to the time of Dumbledore and Grindelwald? Or even further?
It's fun to read fan fiction ideas for these things, but would you like official books from J.K. about these stories? What would you like to see in the J.K. Rowlings's next "Harry Potter" book?

i have a great idea! how about what happened to the Dursley's at the wizarding house they were sent to. Did dudley fall in love with a witch? When they got back Dudley would find Harry's old potion books, could he use them? Harry said even Dudley would like them.

Well, I am sure all of us would love to read any new Harry Potter book, regardless of who it is on. On my side, I would love to see a series of books on Harry's kids, from the perspective of Albus Severus. He seems to be the most promising character for the future. He is unsure, possibly overshadowed by his older brother and has celeb parents. He seems to be a blend of Harry and Ron's character. For him to come to Hogwarts under the burden of expectations of everyone around him make a really interesting character. Although I do wish Voldemort had a son or something who grows up to become a master villain. I just feel the way Voldemort was destroyed was way too easy. I mean this guy had powers rivaling Dumbledore! I guess the possibilities are endless. Nevertheless, JK needs to write more Harry Potter books. I almost feel a sense of loss now that they all are done!

Look always to the future. JK ended the 7th book well but we the readers were always the 4th unseen character. We got to hang around with Harry, Hermione and Ron for years, just the four of us. We the readers stood alone and watched them go their separate ways, unable to go with them. Although they are still freinds, we the readers have been left out. We wanted to go with them at the end of book 7 and continue to be apart of their world, but only JK can make that happen. As it is, we stand alone hoping JK could give us maybe just one more adventure to embark on with Harry, Ron and Hermione. As for what that would or could be, anything would be better than the vacuum left when the 7th book ended.

it's true that sequels and prequels don't always live upto what they're originally based on, but to tell the truth, i would give anything to be part of that magical world again. i wouldn't care if it wasn't as good, it would be something new to sink my teeth into and get me asking new questions, which i sorely miss! i grew up with harry potter so it's left a big hole in my life, the movies are all i have to look forward to. i would love to read about snape growing up, as i'm sure a lot of others do too. i just adore him as a character because he has such an internal struggle to fight, rather than being clean cut good or bad. obviously, the trio's children would be interesting to read about, but i think i need to know what happened between the battle of hogwarts and 19 years later; how did the wizarding world rebuild itself?

a lot of you say that only JK has the power to take you on another wizarding adventure. WRONG! go out there and write your own! It isn't that hard, and if you do it yourself you'll get the chance to decide what happens! you don't have to listen to anyone if you don't want to! you don't even have to write about hogwarts! write about a different wizarding school!if you really wanted to (and in my opinion this would be cool XD) you could make harry's son evil! the possibilities are endless

Yes, anyone can do anything, and there has been tons of great Harry Potter fan fiction. But unless it's written by JK Rowling, it's just not the same.
It's like, anybody could be Dumbledore. Micahel Gambon is a fine Dumbledore. But nobody is REALLY Dumbledore except Richard Harris. That's just the way it is.

I would love to see a prequel based on the Marauders. That would be fantastic.
But I'd also love to read a sequel based on Al, Rose, Hugo, James and Lily in the future... And what Ron, Hermione, Harry and Ginny end up doing, as well as Teddy and Victoire...
I agree with Dave Harber's comment from above; Richard Harris was THE Dumbledore. Now it's like, dude...

Personally i would like to read about Tom Riddle (Lord Voldemort for those who missed it) i mean even though hes the bad guy and all i love backstory and his would have a very rich backstory espically how overtime as e divides his soul he losses his good looks (the one thing his mother wanted him to have) not to mention how he inspired the Eaters his downfall would be a pretty good read to.
Another good one would be Albus Dumbledore from his early age and even through the HP series just to get the story from his point of view.
Ive also been curious as to what happened the Dursleys and more importantly Dudley he and harry left on a good note they seemed to accept each other and i think Dudley even came to accept magic as extradorinary not an abnormality like his parents said.
Also what happened to Neville and Luna and George and the rest of the Weasleys.... man i could honestly go on 4ever and still there would be HUGE gaps that se just didn't touch... I'll just list some.... Ministery of Magic, Muggle Prime Minister, the DA, what did Harry become Auror or Quidditch player same thing for Ron,Hermione,Ginny,... And the Hallows i meen just cause harry "hid" 2 of them dosn't meen someone can't find it I meen most of Hogwarts heard about the Elder Wand... Theres just so many things she left out so i'm up for anything new she puts out... even though it probably won't answer all the questions

You can find a bit more about the later life of the characters in the article "Rowling Goes Beyond the Epilogue." (It's under The Septology on this site.)

On August 8, 2008, Lily from Orlando said:
Hermione said she'd never done a memory charm meaning one of that kind. Modifying a memory (convincing them of something else) would be a completely different incantation than erasing something (obliviate).
Riddle could never come back as a ghost because his soul was too divided to leave a clear impression (it sounds as though an whole soul is needed for a ghost).
Well, Lily, 'Obliviate' is actually a memory charm which modifies memories, not only destroying them. Proof of this statement is in GoF when they are at the Quiditch World Cup, when the wizard modifies Mr. Roberts memories with the charm 'obliviate'.
Also, JK never actually mentions what you have to do to BECOME a ghost in Harry Potters world, so maybe Voldemort DID come back as a ghost and is plotting his revenge right this minute.... (I doubt it though, JK would NEVER let that happen)
Also, I think that they should do adventures of Albus, James, Hugo and Rose, because if she did books from the past, the plot lines would be to easy to guess.

I'd like to read about Harry and all them grown up and how all there kids interact in hogwarts and out of hogwarts.

I should love to see a 'prequel' with James Sirius and Remus, the adventures of the marauders in general, because i think that is developed enough to come up with a really wonderful full fledged novel (like JKR's little unofficial prequel) Perhaps their days at school together. That is what i can see as being successful, although later post epilogue stories would probably be successful as well
