The next Harry Potter: Back to the future or the past?
The Harry Potter books are done. Should J.K. Rowling write some new books that also involve the world of Harry Potter? Or, in the words of the Beatles, should she Let It Be?
And if she does write some new books about Harry's magical world, what should they be about? Would you like to read books about Albus Severus Potter and his adventures at Hogwarts? Or would you like to know more about the times of James, Sirius and Remus? How about going all the way back to the time of Dumbledore and Grindelwald? Or even further?
It's fun to read fan fiction ideas for these things, but would you like official books from J.K. about these stories? What would you like to see in the J.K. Rowlings's next "Harry Potter" book?

I would love to read a book set in the Marauders era. It would be pretty cool to see how they really were, rather than the outer shell that we know. I would love to know who Sirius dated, when Lily actually grew to like James, how the full moon's usually went, and what kind of trouble the Marauders usually got into.

I'd like to know more about what happened waay back - for example more about the four founders of hogwarts.

Yeah, I'd like to read more about all time periods in the magical world of HP. A little more about harrys life after school, Albus Severeus or James. What happened long before and all that kind of stuff. If anyone has read "Red Wall" you know what I mean. This works.
A question I've been wondering about a lot is what happened to harry's grandparents? It seems unlikely that they all d at such a young age..

Let it be.

I vote for both stories at once...what can I say, I'm obviously addicted.

well since it now seems (according to JKR's official site) we're going to get to purchase copies of "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" I think we can assume JKR can't "let it be". And I mean that in a very good way. I think she do some kind of books again about Harry Potter world whether it's back to the past or it's the future generations which really they could both be done in one book because the new generations could discover something that leads them back to the past and you could get both stories in one. But I am happy she's helping to get those tales released to us. She cares about the fans and knows we want more and personally i think she does too. Plus she knows its a cash cow waiting in the wings. It would probably be 10 years down the road but I think it happen. Besides at before the end of Harry Potter she always was saying that was it there would never be anymore...then when it was done she said "never say never". I agree with you Dave, you take what she says with a grain of salt because it's what she has to say at the time but it never seems to be final like she sometimes indicates. So i think we can have hope for more to come.

I think JKR needs to make another book on how the Potters thrice defied Voldy and maybe one on Albus Severus Potter and also Hogwarts:A History or as Hermione calls it ' A Revised History of Hogwarts'!

How about the LIfe and Lies of Ablus Dumbledore? It would be awesome! And what exactly happened to Ariana when those boys saw her doing magic? Ideas keep popping into my head about what happened to her and i want to know what really happened before it gets too gruesome!

I agree with many on this site that she should not write any more about the characters, because it wouldn't be the same (as much as I'm very curious to know more about Minerva McGonagall). However, as many of you have stated, it would be fabulous if she wrote more about the wizarding world. In particular:
Hogwarts: A History
A History of Magic
1001 Magical Herbs and Fungi
Moste Potent Potions (the book from the restricted section)
Confronting the Faceless (the NEWT level DADA book)
Advanced Potion-Making (with the HBP's writing)
I am most interested in Hogwarts: A History!
To Tim from Flagstaff:
Hermione said she'd never done a memory charm meaning one of that kind. Modifying a memory (convincing them of something else) would be a completely different incantation than erasing something (obliviate).
To Ali from India:
Riddle could never come back as a ghost because his soul was too divided to leave a clear impression (it sounds as though an whole soul is needed for a ghost).

I would love to read more about James, Sirius, Remus and Peter at Hogwarts as they got into lots of trouble. I am also curious about how they turned into Animagi to be good friends to Remus when he had transformed into a werewolf. They got into so much mischief and it would be a fun book to read.
Also, I think a book about Harry and Ginny's children would be exciting. I'm curious to see whether Albus Severus and James live up to Harry's troublesome and curious attitude and it would be great to see how they would cope when their little sister, Lily, started Hogwarts and whether she would be as fiesty as her mother.
Lastly, I agree with Lily from Orlando. It would be great if JK could publish some of the school books they use at school especially Hogwarts: A History. It would really bring the Harry Potter world to life even more. Also, if JK didn't publish anymore books it would be a great loss to the world as her writing is really outstanding!

I was so happy when I learned that JK's going to realase the Tales of Beetle the Bard! That's one book I'd love to read. I'm curious how children stories of wizards are like, especially the "Babbitty Rabbitty and her Cackling Stump'.
Anyhow, the other books I'd like to be published and written by JK:
+ Hogwarts: A History
+ The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore
+ The story of Dumbledore and Grindelwald (aside from the revelation that they're friends in the Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore).. The real story with Dumbledore telling the story.
+ What happened to the Malfoys after Voldy's .
+ Something about Luna Lovegood (because I love her character)

well i think howarts: a history would be good.. the book that hermione always quoted from. I think it might show deatils an knowledge like how they made the room of requirement and things.
I would like to know how Harry, ginny, ron and hermiones children were treated by the older teachers in hogwarts knowing that they were the three that defeated the greatest dark wizard ever and so on.
I would like to read a book of a neville longbottom perspective. Maybe how he found life after hogwarts applying for herbology job and visiting gran and his parents.
The book on dumbledore could go either way if it was ever written. Dumbledore comes across very mysterious and maybe to write that book would ruin the character. Also as she has showed the sexual attractions of the main 3 she would be inclined to show dumbledores and as we know she disclosed info that dumbledore is .
