by David Haber
The 60th Annual Tony Awards were awarded this evening in New York City, and two Harry Potter stars were among the honored actors.
Richard Griffiths, best known to American audiences as Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter films, won the Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play category for his appearance on Broadway in The History Boys. Ralph Fiennes, who played Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, was also nominated in this category.

And Frances de la Tour, who played Madame Maxime in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, won the Tony for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play, also for The History Boys.
The History Boys also won the ultimate Tony for Best Play. It also won several other Tonys, including Best Direction of a Play, Best Scenic Design of a Play and Best Lighting Design of a Play.
While Zoe Wanamaker, who was also nominated for Best Featured Actress, lost to Frances de la Tour, her play, Awake and Sing! won the Tony for Best Revival of a Play. And Jim Dale, the voice of the Harry Potter books in the US, did not win in his nominated category of Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musical, but his show, The Threepenny Opera, won the Tony for Best Revival of a Musical.
Domhnall Gleeson, Brendan Gleeson's son, was nominated for Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Play for his performance in The Lieutenant of Inishmore, but he lost to the actor nominated in his category in The History Boys.
Congratulations to all the Tony winners in the Harry Potter family!
