Fan notices why Sean Bean couldn't play James Bond

[from the TV & Radio column in the Sun Sentinel]

Q. You fielded a query about the possibility of Lord of the Rings actor Sean Bean taking on the role of James Bond, Agent 007. This would be impossible since Sean was already in a Bond movie, GoldenEye, as an agent-gone-bad, Alec Trevelyan. They would never put a villain into the leading-man role. Would they entertain the possibility of casting the actors who portrayed Auric Goldfinger, Dr. No, Jaws or Nick Nack as James Bond? -- S.G., Fort Lauderdale

A. I was merely responding to someone else's suggestion. You're probably right, but never say never. Harry Morgan played a wacky general, Bartford Hamilton Steele, before he became kindly Col. Potter on MASH. There have been other less prominent examples of an actor appearing in the same franchise in drastically different personas. Unlike the other Bond villains you cite, Bean has credentials as a double-naught operative, so somebody in the Bond organization must have thought he's credible.
