Harry Potter and the amazingly similar American rival, Percy Jackson
A dyslexic boy demi-god called Percy Jackson could be a rival to the Harry Potter franchise. Percy is the hero of a series of books updating the Greek myths for 21st century America, by a Texan former teacher, Rick Riordan, that have sold nearly ten million copies worldwide. The first film adaptation arrives on Friday.

Emma Watson
Harry Potter star Emma Watson is Hollywood's highest-paid actress
19-year-old Harry Potter star Emma Watson has been named Hollywood's highest-paid female star. Watson is said to have raked in £20 million last year. Her co-star Daniel Radcliffe was placed sixth on the overall list, with his 2009 earnings put at more than £25m. Another Harry Potter star, Rupert Grint, was 15th on the list.

Inside Wizarding World of Harry Potter
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will open this spring, with Universal still to confirm the exact date. But fans are hoping expecting it to be sooner rather than later with a host of new adverts being released to plug the theme park. The official website has been updated and fans were given the chance to experience an interactive map of the theme park.

Half Blood Prince honored by UK film distributers
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince was named Film of the Year at the RAAM awards in London on Wednesday. The RAAM awards honor the best in the U.K. and Irish film distribution biz. "Despite the recession, the U.K. and Irish cinema had a fantastic year," said Roger Pollock, member of the RAAM awards board.

Warner Bros. confirms 3D release of Deathly Hallows part I
Warner Bros. has confirmed previous reports that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 will be getting the 3D treatment, but no official announcement has been made for Part 2. As the film is already well into filming, it will be converted to 3D, as opposed to being filmed for the technology.

Robert Pattinson to appear on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
According to reports, there is a good chance that Robert Pattinson will be a guest star on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Web site Gossip Cop says "it's close to a done deal". Pattinson has become a subject of jokes by Jimmy Fallon for his role in Twilight in several viral spoof videos on the show that were called "Rob Bothered."

Mattel creates special J.K. Rowling doll
has created a doll version of Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling. The one-of-a-kind doll, which will not be for general sale, is on display in Mattel's showroom at the world's largest toy fair in Germany. Mattel says the doll reflects the company's belief that serves as a role as an aspirational role model for girls.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter ticket prices and expansion plans
One thing fans excited to visit Universal's depiction of the beloved Harry Potter world can expect is something to look forward to: no price hike for Islands of Adventure. Park officials said Wizarding World is basically just one of the Islands in Islands of Adventure, not its own theme park. Because of that, it means no extra ticket to gain admittance.

Bill Nighy to be next Doctor Who/Harry Potter crossover
Bill Nighy, who is set to appear in the final Harry Potter film as new Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour, is also expected to appear in an episode of Doctor Who's fifth series. The other latest Dr. Who/Harry Potter connection, is of course the next to latest Dr. Who, was played by David Tennant, who was also Barty Crouch Jr. in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Wizarding World of Harry Potter already disappointing
So the Wizarding World of Harry Potter hasn't even opened yet, it's due to at some point this spring, and we're already disappointed. A "sneak peek" of Universal's new theme park is offered in today's USA Today, and the whole process is tedious and annoying. Thankfully, the actual USA Today article reveals more about the place.

Revealed: Hidden Magic Inside Harry Potter Wizarding World Map
Universal Orlando Resort has partnered with USA Today to offer a new way to view the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. An augmented-reality map found in Thursday's paper offers a virtual sneak peek of the upcoming park with the aid of a webcam. Holding the map in front of a webcam reveals a bird's-eye view of Harry Potter's new world.

Deathly Hallows films will be released in 3D
Early 3D-conversion tests on Warners' remake of "Clash of the Titans" have gone so well that, combined with boosted enthusiasm for 3D in the wake of the "Avatar" tsunami, unconfirmed reports say that the Burbank studio has decided to release not only "Titans" but also the two-part "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" in 3D.

First high-res peek at Hogwarts in Orlando
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be revealed in Orlando in 2010. Now on internet is the first official pic of Hogwarts from the park, expected to house the flagship attraction of the World of Harry Potter which, as the press release puts it, "uses ground-breaking technology to bring the magic, characters and stories of Harry Potter to life."

Harry Potter gets an extension in Boston
Due to its overwhelming popularity, Boston's Museum of Science announced today that it is extending the run of "Harry Potter: The Exhibition" by one week, now ending on Feb. 28. It is "full of such remarkable artistry and detail, new visitors will be inspired by the creativity that went into bringing a magical world to life," the museum director said.

Brandeis students live in Hogwarts dorm
Usen Castle, built in 1928, is the oldest building on Brandeis campus. The castle is full of dead ends and hallways that lead to nowhere. Student Rachael Pass hopes to live in the Castle during her sophomore year because it reminds her of Hogwarts. "The courtyard is the perfect place to practice my Quidditch skills," Pass said.

J.K. Rowling not only created an industry, she has also transformed Hollywood. The first company to be transformed was Bloomsbury, a London publishing house. Then Heyday Films, a young London production outfit who was looking for books that could be turned into films. Next year "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" will open in Florida.
