Who is R.A.B. and where is Slytherin's Locket?
 by David Haber
In the dramatic climax of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Dumbledore and Harry recover a locket from Voldemort's secret cave. Only after Dumbledore "dies" does Harry open the locket and find the note from R.A.B. But who is R.A.B., and where is the locket now?

Maybe it contains a bezoar for some task that Harry would have to accomplish in his search for horcruxes. Posted by Patty from Quincy MA on July 19, 2007 7:43 PM

I think the Regulus idea is really good - but there is another possibility in my eyes:
When I read No. 6 for the first time, I thought R.A.B must be Dumbledore, but when I read it again (until yesterday:-) I changed my mind.
R.A.B. could be Snape! Here is why I think so:
R.A.B. must be
- a (former) Eater because of the title "To the Dark Lord". It shows some kind of respect/distance or because the person is/was used to address him like that. (Dumbledore would address him "Voldemort" or "Tom") Then R.A.B. can be a short form for any Eater name because I think the Eaters didn't use their real names to communicate. This R.A.B. letter is written to be read by Voldemort before he s, so he must understand who R.A.B. is. Otherwise the letter wouldn't be a revenge as it seems to be! Because I still believe that Rowling wouldn't let Dumbledore like a fool, ed because he trusted Snape - I agree with those who believe we get to know the reason why Dumbledore trusted him and that Snape ed him because Dumbledore wanted him to do so. Firstly because he was anyway because of the poinsoness potion he drank (which I believe could not be cured and Dumbledore knew so), secondly because Snape could also fullfill the unbreakable vow. And thirdly because Dumbledore needed Snape on the "dark side" to prepare the way for Harry. The reason why he trusted Snape is either the Snpe/Lily theory (That Snape was is love with Lily Potter and the only one who knows about it was Dumbledore) or Dumbledore made Snape also swear an unbreakable vow (Something like "You have always to follow my orders") when he returned many years ago. Anyway, we get to know the reason and I personnally believe it be the "Dumbledore memory of the talk between him and Snape" which Harry somehow get. Through "memories" it be possible to get some more Dumbledore information. Or Dumbledore has left Harry some other "presents" (a letter or something).
- either he already d or soon (at the beginning of book 7) If the person is already it indeed could be Regulus. Something that is not in favour for the Regulus theory is that Harry saw the Horcrux in the cave and then he finds the fake one near Dumbledore. So it must be stolen between those two events and it couldn't be done by Regulus (who is already ). It could have been Snape when he was running away with Malfoy. He could have used an unspoken spell. Before Snape ed Dumbledore, he stared at him. I truely believe Dumbledore and Snape exchanged thoughts through Occumency. Snape got orders to Dumbledore, take the Horcrux and destroy it. And he must be involved in the whole Horcrux work before. Dumbledore often aked Snape to assist him when dealing with things concerning the Dark Arts. Snape probably knew Harry and Dumbledore were going after a Horcrux and he had to be ready to assist when they return, that's why he wanted Harry to go for Snape right when they returned. Snape could have written the letter before and could have placed it in the fake Horcrux later. Anyway, it mean Snape knows he is going to and soon to make it "a long time" for him to be when Voldemort reads this letter in the end.

i think that sirius's brother had hidden the locket. but i think that he told someone like maybe dumbledore and maybe thats the reason why dumbledore might have planned his because if he did fake it then he could go and look for it and destroy the horcrux Posted by vicky vasse from jersey on July 20, 2007 02:28 AM
i think that R.A.B is actually two people:
1. R.A.B stands for bellatrix and Rodolphus (her husband although it could stand for serius's brother as well!)
2. in hp7 it was made clear that the defenses around the horcruxes need at least 2 people to be able to penetrate the defenses and live eg. ring horcrux: dumbledore right arm was injured proving that even a great wizard like him cant get pass the defenses without help which brings us to the potion in which the locket was hidden: you need help to drink the potion otherwise you wouldn't be able to finish it eg. dumbledore again!
or R.A.B could be a completely different person or group of people (i still feel that its more than one person however!) Posted by samantha on July 20, 2007 06:23 AM
I am sure that R.A.B is one of the Blacks, Sirius' brother. Posted by allen from London on July 20, 2007 09:28 AM
