The next Harry Potter: Back to the future or the past?

The Harry Potter books are done. Should J.K. Rowling write some new books that also involve the world of Harry Potter? Or, in the words of the Beatles, should she Let It Be?

And if she does write some new books about Harry's magical world, what should they be about? Would you like to read books about Albus Severus Potter and his adventures at Hogwarts? Or would you like to know more about the times of James, Sirius and Remus? How about going all the way back to the time of Dumbledore and Grindelwald? Or even further?

It's fun to read fan fiction ideas for these things, but would you like official books from J.K. about these stories? What would you like to see in the J.K. Rowlings's next "Harry Potter" book?

She should continue writing about the world, but hopefully at a time where Voldemort isn't involved. Or any type of physical villain for that matter. I'd like to see her try to write a comedy or romance series, particularly taking place during Albus Severus's time or even past that.

Do you know what I'd love to read - and I'd buy it immediately - it'd be a Kreacher's and Mrs Weasley's "Best of traditional English cooking" cookbook - you know, containing all those mouthwatering dishes Rowling decsribes in the book - Kreacher's Steak and Kidney Pie, Mrs Weasley's Onion Soup.. you get the idea. I know there are loads of cokbooks around already but Rowling could include some quirky stuff like homebrewed butterbeer or Rosemerta's firewhiskey cake... I loved the descriptions of the food in HP.

Yeah, I'll love the Cookbook! It would be funny ofcourse!

Lol - the cookbook idea sounds amazing. Yeah I would definately buy it.

As for any continuation of the Harry Potter story - DON'T DO IT, JK! The last couple of pages in ly Hallows, describing them getting on the train in the future, were almost more than I could stand! A more satisfying idea for me would have been to have simply included the family tree that she has formulated for the characters showing who they marry and who their children are. That would have been a fantastic epilogue. Our imaginations would have done the rest. I think the characters that we know and love now belong to the fans - its the place of fan fiction to continue the adventures and flesh out their potential lives.

Saying this, the only other book I would be really interested to read would be the story of the Hogwarts founders - there is obviously a whole saga there!

I certainly don't want to read about James and Sirius at school. As much as I love Sirius (and I do!), I agree with previous posts - they were horrible, arrogant bullies. There is no other word to describe what they did to Severus than bullying.

Also, I think JK pretty much tied up all the loose ends as far as the past relating to Harry and his situation - there isn't much more to say about those stories.

I look forward with great anticipation to reading JK's other non-Harry related stories however!

i think she should follow Albus Severus Potter. i think it would be so cool to follow the potter line insted of going back! so if she does make another sieris, i hope it is to the future!

I would love to see the series, or even just a book from Hermoine's perspective. Of course Ron would be interesting, but he s with Harry most of the time, so I feel like it would be more interesting to hear from Hermoine, especially because we never really hear about her life outside of Hogwarts (unlike Ron with the Burrow and all the time Harry is there).

I wouldn't mind reading about the marauders, lily and snape and THEIR adventures during Hogwarts.but I would also love to read about what happened in the later years after the Battle at Hogwarts.

As for Harry Potter himself, it should be left alone. I in fact have no desire to read about his kids either or anyone from the next generation.

I would actually love to read about the teachers lives. We know a bit about Snape, yet nothing about McGonagall. I thinl that'd be interesting. Possibly not the most exciting series, but I'd just like to know more about her

Annabel you are right- Minerva Mc Gonagall is a fantastic character, yet often overlooked as she acts in such a restrained but for that even more poignant way. Her verbal duals with Umbridge in OoTP are legendary - a feast of retained emotions. Mc Gonagall is the embodiment of the "tight British upper lip" but at the same time she is so fierce ( she loves the Quidditch matches) and she cares so much for Harry ( I LOVE the scenes where she gives Harry career advise in OoTP; she tells Harry the truth about how hard it's gonna be achieving this but at the same time totally believing in him and his abilities and also living well up to the task to defy Umbridge ("May I offer you a cough drop, Dolores?" - this sentence must now be embedded into Hogwarts history in the same way as Fred and George Weasley's swamp...). I love her - and although often overlooked, she is one of HP's heroes - keeping her station as well as defying injustice wherever she could ( especially when she came to Hagrid's defence when he was cowardly attacked by Umbridge or when uttering poignant sentences such as "Only the difference between truth and lie, bravery and cowardice ... a distinction, in short, that you are unable to appreciate..." (DH).

Minerva Mc Gonagall certainly appreciated her role as one of the pillars of Hogwarts ("Hogwarts needs you, Minerva" - Albus Dumbledore in OoTP)

I personally think that a story from Peter Pettigrew's point of view would be interesting. It would give the story of the Marauders, and then later on, after Voldemort returns, about Voldemort and all his evildoings.

I really like the cookbook idea.

I also think that JK should publish the Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore, and give the full story of Dumbledore from Skeeter's point of view.

She should NOT write another HP book, or even another of a different book/series under her own name.
Now don't get me wrong; she's a great writer. But she has too much to live up to. She would constantly have books compared to HP. They would be viewed as extensions of HP, which I'm sure she wouldn't appreciate, as a writer. To a writer, each book is unique, and she would be disappointed if her "baby" that she spent hours on would be thought of as a sequel, compared mercilessly, or not taken seriously, because people think of her as a fantasy author? Look what's happening to Rick Riordan; every review has, "compared to Percy Jackson..." Can't be too amazing a feeling.
