The Aftermath: We were all correct

by David Haber

Sometime a week before Book 7 came out, someone commented that Harry would die, but then come back. I think most everyone on the site thought it was a silly idea. But I told several people at that time that I thought that just might be the perfect solution, although I couldn't figure out how J.K. could make it work. J.K. did, of course! So, the half of the Harry Potter fans in the world who thought Harry would die were right! And the other half who thought he would live were also right!

This was a fantastic way to end the best book series in my opinion ever made... JK did a great job in tieing all this together with a pretty bow... but i still do have one question.... Like how did Neville get the sword? and also I would love to see JK right a not exactly story... but like a mini book that explained more about what happened after that great battle at hogwarts.... I also hope that JK writes many more series.. she has great talent... and i have to say her books have most definatley touched me.... they be a part of me forever...... and this books be passed down to my children... THANKS JK!...
O and to this site... I came here right after reading HBP and you guys are genius....pure genius.....

My heart dropped into the pit of my stomach when Harry lost both Heldwig and the firebolt so early in the book. It was a sign that Harry had to endure much loss, to the extent of being stripped of every physical thing that he held dear even before he started. Great touch that he mourned Hedwig and feared for the others so much that he barely even noticed the loss of the firebolt-- it emphasized that Harry had his priorities straight. I liked that Ms.Rowling provided Ginny a way to give her love to Harry for him to carry him through his journey and that she gave Ron the chance to exorcise the envy and uncertainty he had hanging like an albatross around his neck through the series, just as he had Neville grow in books 4 & 5. I also forgot to mention earlier..It was Harry's LOVE for Dobby that won him the respect of the goblin Griphook, which led to the recovery of the cup. As for Fred, I think his shook me the most. The Weasley Twins were supposed to be indistructable!

I remembered af few other things I would like to point out. First the fact that Nelville have been such a poor wizard in many of the first books, could this be because he was using he daddy's wand, which would recognise Bellatrix as it's true master?

Second it sounds to me like it is quite well known by the wand-makers that wands chooses the wizards, however it also sounds like it's not that uncommen that people inheirite thier parants or others used wands, but these two quite well-known facts seems to be contraditing each other don't they?

Lastly, if I recal correct, at some point Harry carries 3 wands and decides to use the spell stupefy and all 3 wands shoot - further it does not sound like the power just have been split in 3 rays. But if you can fire off multiple spells at once by holding more wands why don't many more people do this?

Thanks, Marjorie from New Zealand and JK from California. I suspect we're all going for a second pass at reading the book after we sign off here. Can't wait!

I am going to miss the books... but I miss Hedwig most of all. I didn't understand the raw, flayed baby at first, maybe because i had stayed up all night reading, but after I aked my brother when he was done what it was, he explained it to me. I thoought it was just a random baby, but now I'm pretty sure it was representing Voldemorts soul because in a way, he did flay his soul.

i was very suprised to see a lot of the theorys were right! im also very happy with the book i think we all thought it dragged out but i have to say i think we just wanted to know what happen. now that i read the book (in 2 days i might add) i wait a week or 2 and re-read it slowly just so i didnt miss any thing. sadly 1/2 of the people i liked but i think the end was very sweet! i cryed wile reading 19 years later. every thing turned out how i wanted it to. i was very upset with Fred's , its like hogwarts without Dumbledore, you cant have George without Fred.

i would like to thank Jo. she has made a wonderful world with Harry Potter. while reading the books i felt connected with the people (it also helped that i role played harry potter people with a bunch of people) so i felt even more connected. thank you Jo for every thing! im sure we are sad that the best book series is over we have the movies to look forward to but reading the books was the world to me!

Oh, Fred, how sad I am you were one of those who d, and I'm so glad you left telling a joke. I DO wish we'd had more about the Weasleys, especially George and Molly, after all this. But I think Fred would have wanted to go that way; he and George took more risks more light-heartedly than almost anyone in the books, it was the key to their success, and also why they were immune to Voldemort--they didn't take themselves seriously. I suspected when George lost only an ear that Snape was good; later, JKR explains it differently that Snape missed. I thought Snape was doing the least damage he could while still looking like a loyal -eater. Funny how we (or some of us) keep trying to rewrite it all, eh?

I always loved how all the other people had rather extravagent names except the Potters and Weasleys--Ron, Fred, George, bill, Charlie, Ginny, et al vs. all those wild names. I thought it was most cute! Fred, RIP

Ok so i loved it! i was reading it and i felt i knew some of the things that were happening in the book from all the fan-fiction i read..

J.K did a very good job! it was a great book!

i knew the house-elfs would help with the battle in the end...and they had to go back to Hogwarts...they just had to!

i was surprised about Snape though... i was wrong!

R.I.P.: Mad Eye Moody, Fred, Dobby, Lupin, Tonks, and lastly Snape.

I love this book (my favourite one!), granted that some parts could be made longer especially the epilogue. Was so excited the week before it's out... Well, the ending was kinda expected.

But its the little bits and pieces that nailed it for me. I mean how Hermione altering her parents' memories and Ron giving him the look or Ron trying to make a move on her. How sweet Snape was.. Or Fred/Harry and George/Harry were commenting how identical they looked. How Neville led the DA and charge at Voldemort. Harry crying over his parents' graves. Some scenes were hilarious too (though the book is about s). There's a few gaps here and there, but I really, really enjoyed the book, read a few times over the weekend already!

I'm so gonna miss the Harry Potter series... I mean the 7 books took a decade to end and we all grew up with it. Sorely missing it already... Sigh, I don't know if there is any book series that could charm us again after Harry Potter, I'm so going to look forward the last two movies! Especially the Battle of Hogwarts in the last book...

Let me indulge in the book again.. right after this!

I think the baby thing in "kings crossing" was Voldemort, right? He was also struck by the curse, so it makes sense he'd be in limbo too. The description sounded to me similar to how she described him in GOF before he gets his body back. He's not a whole person because he's only got 1/8 of a soul.

I hated the epilogue. I felt like I was reading fanfiction - and not even good fanfiction! I think it would have been better to just leave us at Hogwarts after the battle, knowing that though unsaid, the heros who remain would be okay.

I also was really bothered by the fact that Harry's cloak was so important yet Moody's eye could see through it. Also, as someone pointed out on this site before the book came out (I think it was in response to someone suggesting the cloak was a Horcrux, but same diff now that we know about Hallows) - why the heck did Dumbledore give it to an 11 year old?

This was a great book! Dobby's took me completely by surprise. I was also sure (twice) that Hagrid was . I had no idea that Lily and Severus were . But I am still a bit confused. What was the thing that Dumbledore said they could not help when Harry met him after Voldemort "ed" Harry?

Posted by Mark on July 22, 2007 7:19 PM

Well first off I would like to say that I thought this book was genius like the rest of the series. Such as the the Snape/Lily saga, how we learn more about Dumbledore and his flaws, and the final showdown where Harry knowingly walks to sacrifice himself. However there are a few things that bothered me or I didn't quite agree with. I thought the whole wand thing was confusing about how Draco was the true owner of the wand and how Dumbledore apparently dueled Grindlewald and beat the unbeatable wand.

About the ending before I read this website I thought too that Dumbledore somehow planned his so he could position himself to help Harry in the end (Like Obi-wan did in Star Wars) and thought we would see him in the Headmaster's office. I was still upset that he would do that but it makes more since since we found out he was terminally ill.

My thoughts on the King's Cross chapter was that Harry was not but was near or had an "out of body experience" and had the to go back. I could have done without the part of him being naked but maybe that was to make us think he had d and moved on without his worldly positions but it would have been odd to be naked talking to Dumbledore. Anyways I thought since they were inside Harry's mind that the crying creature was Voldemort's soul or Horcrux ing.
