The Aftermath: We were all correct

by David Haber

Sometime a week before Book 7 came out, someone commented that Harry would die, but then come back. I think most everyone on the site thought it was a silly idea. But I told several people at that time that I thought that just might be the perfect solution, although I couldn't figure out how J.K. could make it work. J.K. did, of course! So, the half of the Harry Potter fans in the world who thought Harry would die were right! And the other half who thought he would live were also right!

I am confused about the final battle between Harry and Voldemort. Why did the elder wand work against Harry the first time to the horcrux, but would not work the second time to Harry off? And if Voldemort had Harry's blood inside of him, then shouldn't he also have Lily's protective spell inside of him?

I can't believe its over... it was amazing! J.K. is so talented! She made me physically cry when Harry was walking into the forest to ... i couldn't believe he was going to ! But im so glad it ended happily, i hate sad endings and im SO glad that ginny and harry finally got together properly, although i find it hard to imagine them all aged 36!
Quick question, when harry's son James says that "Teddy is 'snogging' Victoire", their cousin, I'm presuming that he meant Bill and Fleur's daughter cos the name is french--- am i right?

i'm just wondering if she may, one day, do a follow up based on the kids. maybe long ways off as she probably needs to recover from writing these 7, and might need to think of an idea.

but its set up with though. HP: The Next Generation with James, Albus Severes, Hugo, Rose all at Hogwarts. and Scorpius too. I'm guessing that maybe Albus ends up in Slytherin?

Someone asked why the first AK spell did not Harry. What the AK spell DID was Voldermort's soul inside Harry. Once he was whole again, that was enought to slay Nagini and off Voldermort once and for all.

Well, for all of the people on here who are thinking of what happened to all the people that J.K. left out in her horrendous epilogue, she be writing an enclyclopedia covering all of the futures and pasts of the characters. So, no more supposition and fanfic is neccessary.

I was surprised at Hedwig's , and it did seem rather pointless. But in thinking it over the past few days, perhaps Hedwig and the Firebolt had to be lost - they were the last vestiges of Harry's childhood. Also, it occurs to me that in a way, Hedwig took the Avada Kedavra for Harry similar to Fawkes taking it for Dumbledore, but, alas, Hedwig was not a Phoenix.

I'm wondering if I've done my math correctly, because if I have, the book ends in the future, in 2016. I know, I'm weird for calculating that, but I couldn't help it. When J.K. gives us the numbers... I just can't resist...

Albus Severus Potter has got to be the cutest little kid ever. And the epilogue was worth it, if just to see Ron as a father.

Too bad Fred had to . Even though Lupin d and left his son, at least he gets to join the rest of the Marauders in now. And at least Teddy has a godfather and the Wizarding world is pretty peaceful now.

There is so much I have and want to say about this book, but I can't remember on the spot and it would probably take forever anyway.

Thanks to J.K. Rowling, I'm one of the kids who has grown up with something as epic as Harry Potter.

Thanks Jo for makin a wicked series of books that always be remembered.... and also the characters that also be remembered:
Voldermort, Dobby, Rufus, Severus, Mad Eye, Fred, Tonks, Lupin, Bellatrix, Crabbe, Collin.
And those are just victims of The ly Hallows. You are such a talented writer and its so sad knowing that there be no more Harry Potter books to look forward to.

By the way, just thought I'd share some more math, since I recently did it for myself.

IndigoCrayon's year of 2016 for the epilogue is correct. The first book took place in 1991, we get that from the fact that in book 2, Nearly Headless Nick's 500th day party celebrated the year 1492. That means the last book took place in 1997. 1997+19=2016.

Cover Art (American) comments - some folks are all in a tither about there not being wands involved on the cover art of the American version. As an artist, I would venture to guess that there were very specific instructions about what the artist (Mary Grandpre) could and could not include on the cover as per Scholastic. It gives us the idea... if you think about it - all of the covers are like that - they give you just enough information to help your imagination fill in the blanks. It is an artistic interpretation...Likewise, the British cover shows us the an artist's interpretation of the Gringots scene... they can't show us everything - just like JK left some things to our imaginations.

As far as the encyclopedia goes - JK mentioned on the TODAY web site that she probably do it - but that it is going to be awhile before she does as she needs a break! Poor woman - probably does... My guess is she wait till the last movie has been released so our imaginations can continue to play with such a wonderful world!

And finally - the nagging questions - perhaps JK fed us a few 'questions' she never intended to answer to throw us off the scent if you - we all had lots and lots of theories about all of the things she said she was going to share...certainly kept us busy! (I think I am buying the Dudly answer, btw...love, etc... seriously - that was magic for him!)

To Dave Haber: we also know that the 7th book was set in 1997 because the dates of lily and James' s are shown on the tombstone at godric's hollow which we know was 16 years previously (1981), when harry was one.

Posted by Harry from London, England on July 25, 2007 12:26 PM

why did harry never use his firebolt? and wasn't Regarding:

"using 'severus' as albus's middle name a bit of an over? after all, snape gave voldemort the correct information about when harry was going to leave the dursleys. i think that was a little suspicious. anyone agree with me?"

It was not suspicious. Snape gave Voldegmort the correct information about when Harry was going to leave the Dursleys on Dumbledore's orders. Dumbledore thought Snape had to give Voldemort good info to keep his cover good.

The elder wand worked the first time only because Harry ingly sacrificed himself.
