The Aftermath: We were all correct

by David Haber

Sometime a week before Book 7 came out, someone commented that Harry would die, but then come back. I think most everyone on the site thought it was a silly idea. But I told several people at that time that I thought that just might be the perfect solution, although I couldn't figure out how J.K. could make it work. J.K. did, of course! So, the half of the Harry Potter fans in the world who thought Harry would die were right! And the other half who thought he would live were also right!

Reader Comments: (Page 5)

let me start off by saying that is the greatest book in the series...

but didn't jk say how the reason that harry had his mother's eyes would be explained in this novel or did she say that the fact that he had his mothers eyes would help him in the novel?

i'm hoping for an eighth book but im not sure how the plot would go...but oh well you can always have hopes...

I thought that J.K. was going to answer the question we were left hanging with from the 6th book-is bill weasley a werewolf? I enjoyed the book, but i found it rather confusing. I don't get what was going on when harry sort of d and took a walk with Dumbledore. Was he ? If he wasn't how could Dumbledore talk to him? And the part where Harry asks Dumbledore if it was all in his mind, and he said yes-what was that supposed to mean? Also i was quite dissappinted in the fact that she didn't really tell the other character's endings. Who became the headmaster of Hogwarts. I have so many unanswered questions. I also thought that we were fully going to find out why some people become ghosts and some don't. Also, i was a bit confused about dumbledore-was he really a bad person?

Who is the new Headmaster/mistress of Hogwarts? McGonagall? Where is Hagrid? I put a comment in here earlier about Ollivander needing to be important and I was right we just didn't know how important. Look for it I know it's here, I think in the comments about who lives/s. Great book that never be achieved again in our lifetime though I do hope for one

I'm sure everyone here has their own feelings and maybe complaints about D.H., but I'm also sure that everyone here can feel nothing but astonishment for the achievement of dear Ms. Rowling. She created a world that at least I, a 33 year old with -being quite unmodest here- enough intelligence to think this unswise, wished at numerous times that it was actually real...She deserves our full respect and awe for creating a story so full and so... i dunno... "round" (dutch term translated literally here). I for one always love her for it. I wish there was a chance that I could have kids...they would have been brought into (unto?) the magical world with great esteem for that very world!
As far as the story goes: I just wanted to mention I cried the most at chapter 3.....That dear old Dudley! It's been something I've been craving for, for quite a few books now.. All in all I just want to say Thank You Very Much to JK.

I think that the last chapter was,...um, not, done.
But I think Jo found a great name for a daughter of Hermione's, Rose. I think that Jo sould have said what James (Harrys son) looked like. she said Al looked like Harry and Lily looks like Ginny but nothing about James.

I thik Ginny needed to DO more, she was just kind of, there. Neville also needed to do more, although he did do what Harry would have done if he had been there. (Hogwarts)

Jo also sould have said who d at the fight at Hogwarts. all she said was that Fred, Tonks, Lupin and 50 others d. she didn't say, at all, who the 50 others were. And I don't think that everone Harry knew from Hogwarts lived, they cant have.

Shape sould have said something about how sorry he was that he had told Voldemort about the hogs head.

I also thik that Harry sould have said "Thank you" to Draco for what he did for him. he did not need to.

Anyway, its a good book, forget what I said above.

LONG LIVE J.K. ROWLING!

I inhaled this book in a frenzie of OH I was right... and gee I sure missed that... I was sure that Dumbledore's Pheonix would enter into it somehow since Pheonixes come back out of the ashes and there was a pheonix after Dumbledore's ...but NO PHEONIX! I also thought after Hedwig d that maybe Fawlks would come to Harry. but my next thought after I finished the book was what a good leader that would be and since Harry didnt , there are a lot of other adventures that could happen in that 19 year break...
I was so sad at the s of Hedwig, and Dobby...but being a twin myself I really felt for Geoge losing Fred... I nearly lost my twin once and the twin Bond is something only a twin can understand... so my grief for Fred and George is huge.... and being a mom I can really feel for mrs Weasly who has always been one of my heros too. I LOVED it that she got to take on bellatrix and I loved how all of the DA got good parts in defeating Voldemort and the Hrocruxes not just Harry... JKR truley brought it together and kept me gripped to the end... I KNEW she wouldnt off Harry permanently...just imagine the riots! well now that I have finished it I am going to read it again, and savour every detail this time slowwwlyyyy......

i think it was a great book to read, but i also think it was to much for one book!

i think it's awful that so many characters d, though i know they had to, cause when they didn't the story would be less exciting!
i cried much through the hole book!
one sentence in the epilouge touched me really and i bursted into tears! it was when harry said to his son albus: "Albus Severus, you where named for two headmasters of hogwarts. One of them was a slytherin and he was probably the bravest man i ever knew"
ok i must add i was always a big snape fan but i think the whole snape-lily story was one of the best things in DH

thanks J.K for 7 wonderful books!

the most epic and well written ending to a story in history, i especially liked the way kreacher was converted and neville proved to be one of the bravest and heroic characters, despite his apparent lack of talent...and becoming the herbology professor was a nice touch, the only thing that bothers me is that harry didnt go on to become headmaster of hogwarts, or at least a teacher. still, cant complain! thank you so muck JK, you da bomb!

it was no longer a childrens book, because there was far too much swearing. anyone agreee?

I was so relieved about Snape. I thought his memories in the pensieve were the best parts of the book. And I'd like to say 'I told you so!' to all of those Snape-doubters.

Emily from Chicago: I totally agree with your points, especially about the wand lore and the s of Tonks and Lupin.

In previous posts on this site people have said that a squib would reach magical powers in this book, but that didn't happen did it?

Although I love JKR and these books more than anything, I don't think this book was her best. Too much information and mostly predictable and one action scene after another. Not like the other books that you can read a million times and enjoy. The point of this one was mainly to see if your theories were correct and whip through it. Some of the conclusions were hastily explained and not fleshed out enough.
But, I think she made good choices of those who d. No one from the trio. One of the Weasely's had to go, with such a large family, it wasn't statistically possible otherwise. Hagrid making it out alive, was one of the few major surprises.

I thought the "Harry waking up in Kings Cross" part sounded like something out of The Matrix including the part about Harry having _the choice_ to go on or go back.

The conclusion was more believable than I thought it would be. I could never imagine that Harry could overcome Voldy in a straight duel but the field was pretty much tilted towards Harry at the end and as somebody commented Dumbledore had outthought and checkmated Voldy.

One thing that surprised me was how Harry completely turned the tables on Voldy on the Occlumency front after he completely out-maneouvred him in the Order of the Phoenix. Harry seemed to be able to walk into Voldy's thoughts at and get pretty crucial information.

I thought that the epilogue was a waste of space. I have to agree with Emily from Chicago about the names of the kids. Yuck. It seems that the series has come a full circle and ended with the same tone as the first book.
