The Aftermath: We were all correct
 by David Haber
Sometime a week before Book 7 came out, someone commented that Harry would die, but then come back. I think most everyone on the site thought it was a silly idea. But I told several people at that time that I thought that just might be the perfect solution, although I couldn't figure out how J.K. could make it work. J.K. did, of course! So, the half of the Harry Potter fans in the world who thought Harry would die were right! And the other half who thought he would live were also right!

One thing did confuse me tho - were there eight bits of Voldemort's soul in the end, ie seven horcruxes plus the part in his body?
Can't believe Hedwig was the first to - I cried, then again with Dobby, when Tonks and Lupin were and Teddy was alone, when I though Harry was , and yet again at the end - don't think any book has ever had this effect on me! Can't believe it's over - it's the end of an era! Posted by Helen from Manchester, UK on July 22, 2007 2:57 PM
im so sad, no more harry. but has anyone noticed jk wrote her books to grow up with a generation, as what started with a childrens book grew into an epic tale? if you dont see what i mean read pilosophers stone after dh. Posted by alex from surrey on July 22, 2007 2:57 PM
And David, you were right – Dumbledore was not , not “really” , just moved on to a different level of the chessboard. He did checkmate Riddle in the end!
what does this mean? Posted by John from Santa Fe on July 22, 2007 2:58 PM
So wonderful! I have never cried before or been scared for my life--I had to put the book down at the "Malfor Manor" chapter, because I was shaking and my heart was racing with fear--from a book before. I am so sad that it has come to an end, but CHEER UP, because
a) Rowling has said "never say never" about another HP book b) She most likely be writing a Harry Potter Encyclopedia, yet another book to wait for! c) Think of all the wonderful fanfics you can now read, because JK Rowling seems to have laid out the start of all these new fanfics for her fanfic writing fans (lot's of f's but oh well, I don't actually write them, either). d) We still have two more movies! I think that Jo should write one more book, not necessarily a long one, but one that goes into detail about all the characters lives. The only downside about this book (other than its the last one) is that there is not nearly enough information on what happens to the characters. Spectacular! I thought that a lot more than two main characters d, too. I totally bawled over Hedwig, Dobby and Fred. And Snape's "look me in the eyes" And go Mrs. Weasley, taking on Bellatrix! Neville should never doubt he's a Gryffindor now, after all, didn't Dumbledore say only a true Gryffindor could pull the sword from the Sorting Hat? I had a bad feeling about Lupin and Tonks as soon as they named Harry godfather. Maybe a book about Teddy? Is he a werewolf? Can he change his fur color at ? Don't you all think this is going to make a great movie? Posted by Lyn from Las Vegas, NV on July 22, 2007 3:09 PM
oh my gosh. to the maker of this site - you couldn't have put anything better.
as i finished the book i thought about eveything i read on this site (in high anticipation of book 7!) and thought hmmm... everyone was kinda right!
harry was protected from , yes. but did anyone notice when he would have thoughts about ing curses "narrowly missing" his peers?
or did you realize he actually said "no one else tonight"?
when he was talkin to dumbledore in limbo, dumbledore said it was because he was the only true master of , and possersor of the ly hallows...! pretty cool how that works out, eh?

I've been wondering about that too... how DID the sword get back in the Sorting Hat? Perhaps the sword is not contained in the hat, but rather the hat has the power to summon the sword to it? Posted by Mobius from Denver, CO on July 22, 2007 3:14 PM

Okay I forgot to add some things earlier:
I have been annoying my older brother non stop, because he keeps asking "Does Harry ? Does Harry ? Does Harry ?" and my response is always "In a sense." And if I d, I would not want to show up at King's Cross naked, and have a cheery conversation with my ex headmaster, but that's just me. And Ariana told me to say one more thing: This book seemed to be a crowd-pleaser, and not in a good way. Harry comes back to life. Harry is a Horcrux, but the Horcrux inside of him is destroyed and he lives on. Voldemort s. Bellatrix s. Ron and Hermione are married. Harry and Ginny are married. So many of our theories are proved right! That shocks me [Ariana still talking], because I would think that JKR would want to write the book with more mystery, and more unexpected twists in it, not just theory after theory being correct. [Me talking] And I have to say, I agree with her a little bit. Think about it: people have been saying that Harry is a Horcrux for, like, ever. Don't you think that you would rather read a book in which you were wrong about your theory and have there be some unexpected turn in it, then to read everything that you have been saying for the last two years be truth? But my tiara theory was right and I was happy about that (it was my only theory that was proved true). I have said for a while that the tiara in the Room of Requirement was a Horcrux, it was Ravenclaw's tiara, and that Voldemort hid it there while he was at the school, applying for the Defense Against the Dark Arts teaching post (Dumbledore being Headmaster at this time). And all of that was true! It makes me deeply suspicious... hmm.... Posted by Ashley R. from Missouri on July 22, 2007 3:15 PM
I finished this book in two sittings. I bet it looked kind of strange when I was sobbing while my friends read on the jacket of the book something else, but I didn't mind that much. I wonder what happened to Luna? Posted by Rodolfo Torres from Lima, Peru on July 22, 2007 3:18 PM

The book, of course, was everything it should have been, but I have these few comments to make:
1. It seems to me that JK Rowling arrived at the seventh and final book and found herself with a little too much material for just one novel. Many portions of the book are largely summaries -- which is understandable in a finale, of course, but I feel she maybe relied on that a bit much because she was running out of time and pages. Also, it is rather suspect that the it takes them so long to find and then destroy the first Horcrux (the locket) and then a significantly smaller amount of time to take care of the other ones. While the series is indisputably brilliant overall, I could not shake the feeling that about 200 pages in, JKR thought, "Oh no, I need an 8th book," and then had to somehow work around that.
2. Following up on my first point, I have to say that all the wandlore stuff, albeit fascinating, was way too important for how quickly it was dumped upon us. If the nature of wands was going to be so crucial to Voldemort's eventual demise, then some sort of introduction of the subject of wandlore was necessary in the other books. All of that stuff about how Draco was the true master of the Elder Wand even though he never touched it was borderline believable, but the bit about Harry being its true master once he defeated Draco seems a little far-fetched. I mean, is she saying that every wizard who defeats another wizard becomes the true master of every wand that defeated wizard ever touched? Like I said, too much for just one book. It needed to flushed out over many.
3. Her treatment of the of Lupin and Tonks was so cursory! I actually had to go back and search through the battle scene three times before I found where they had d. Granted, I was reading a bit hastily in my frenzy to get to the end, but it seems ridiculous that I would be able to miss it altogether.
4. The epilogue was unnecessary (like anybody doubted that Harry and Ginny/Ron and Hermione would get married and produced a ton of little wizards, half of whom would be red-haired and all of whom would be named after all their friends) and corny as hell, but hey. Who's not a sucker for such things. I know I am.
5. Molly Weasley screaming "NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" at Bellatrix is without a doubt the funniest moment in any of the seven books. I had to put the book down to laugh for at least two minutes before I could go on.
That's all. The whole thing has been brilliant and magical, and I am not even that sad about it ending because I know that I read each book over and over again, and when I finally tire of this in approximately 30 years, I'm sure someone else, or maybe even JKR herself, have written more magical things for all of us to believe in. Was I the only one that noticed harry was pimpin' in this book? I mean Ginny and Cho wanted him, and for a few moments it looked like he had something with Luna too... Posted by kevin from los angeles, california on July 22, 2007 3:22 PM
