The Aftermath: We were all correct

by David Haber

Sometime a week before Book 7 came out, someone commented that Harry would die, but then come back. I think most everyone on the site thought it was a silly idea. But I told several people at that time that I thought that just might be the perfect solution, although I couldn't figure out how J.K. could make it work. J.K. did, of course! So, the half of the Harry Potter fans in the world who thought Harry would die were right! And the other half who thought he would live were also right!

Very good. So sad, and a little scary. Still, some plot holes: How could Draco have disarmed and "defeated" Dumbledore if he had the unbeatable Elder Wand? The same can be asked for how Grindelwald lost to Dumby. It doesn't make sense. Also, Moody saw through the cloak in book 4, although the cloak is supposed to be perfect and impossible to penetrate.

Third, it's not really a plot hole, but something I don't understand, and is bothering me a lot. At the end, Harry tells Voldemort that his spells weren't "binding" to the students because Harry d for them. So, since Lily did the same for Harry, does this mean during the whole series, Voldermort could never have ed Harry since he had magical protection?

And one more thing i forgot to add... i may have missed it but nowhere in books 5-7 have I found an explanation as to why the Ministry was empty when they were fighting Voldy and the Eaters in OotP. Did anybody find out why?

I love the 7th book. To me it was the most heart-breaking moment when Dobby d. The silver doe beautifully represented the love of Snape towards Lilly. I was surprised by the fact that how Dumbledore was . The ly hallows were absolutely intriguing. Kudos! Ollivander, the goblin (Griphook?) were great characters.

I agree with some previous comments that the book was a little rushed. The earlier chapters of the book were more enjoyable. The happily-ever-after epilogue did not work for me. It just did not quite fit the style of the rest of the series. Also, it's hard to picture the trio suddenly become parents. Perhaps a little bridge before the epilogue would have helped.

After all, thanks Jo for yet another book delivered with wonders.

Some questions I am to ask. First, how come the invisibility cloak, a.k.a the third hallow, is resistant from Spells? In HBP, Dumbledore's stunning spell stuck harry through it. And in the same book, in Hogwarts Express, Draco also hit harry through the Cloak!

My second question, though I am not 100% sure of it, (and its very trivial, but still is a question, and Dumbledore has always encouraged Harry to ask) that the Deluminator, I think in one of the previous book, was mentioned as the "Put-Outer", isnt it?

Did anybody else notice Hermione's contradiction?

Toward the beginning of the book, she told Ron and Harry that she modified her parents memory, so that they would have to desire to move to Australia.

However, later, when they're in the cafe, after fleeing the wedding, she states that she has never used a memory charm, but knows the theory...

I was expecting her to be somebody else at any point the whole way through the book when I caught it. I don't have page numbers, but if you look, you'll see.

For those people who say that she did everything we expected. Remember, people were only coming up with what they thought based on her own words. She had obviously always planned it that way.

Even though I didn't want to believe Harry was a Horcrux I knew it to be possible because of the way Dumbledore explained his connection.

The reason so many people were so close was because she had given us clues. It was a great ending, and maybe some was expected but no one else could have done it justice.

Excellent book JK! Well done! But now I have this empty feeling in my stomach, knowing that the next time I'll hear about Harry might be in 10 years.

But I think JK definately write another Harry Potter in a few years time. She left quite a bit out in number 7.

Another thing, is Mad-Eye really ? His body was never found. Only his eye. But in the scene where they are on their way to Gringotts, the come accross alot of beggars, one of which seem to have a bandage strapped accross his eye.

Did Lily's protection mean voldermort never could have ed Harry, like Harry protected Voldermort's spells from binding to the crowd and Neville? It wouldn't be as cool if the whole time, Harry was never in danger from Voldermort.

HP7 is certainly my favorite book of the lot. Fred, Lupin and Tonks truly left me dewy eyed. Of course, the epilogue somewhat subtly settled the matter that J.K. was over with the HP saga. “All is well”. Definitely a very bittersweet moment for me.

R.I.P: Dobby, Fred Weasley, Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks, Alastor Mad Eye Moody, Dobby.
I thought the ending was fantastic, J.K Rowling could not have done it any better.

Easily the best book of the series. Rowling has produced a true Master-piece here. I was wondering how the last book was going to live up to all he expectations but it has done more than that.

I really agree with TBB from Sydney. Those moments he/she mentioned... I didn't realize I found them touching until I read it. After I'd finished the book I really felt bad still, and I didn't immediately start thinking about what happened in the meanwhile, theories, connections etc. I was just overwhelmed, I guess...
Hermiones charm on her parents... There are lots of people on the internet complaining they know too few of Hermiones family, and I myself would like to find out more about it too. The charm Hermione puts upon her parents is something that is just so Hermione-like, you know? Saving her family and at the same time helping Harry. I really liked that touch... Made the bond between Hermione, Ron and Harry even stronger...
The returning of Percy. In the books he seems so serious, "strong" (as in not bending for others - hope this is the right expression) and then his appearance in DH... Really touched me, too. I was already wondering if he'd come back... I was almost sure he would. Somehow I never really believed Percy was really gone, out of the family.
And Snape's . I read through that part quickly, so I don't remember all of it, and I thought that they (Voldemort and Snape) were in the Shrieking Shack, and Harry and Ron were in the tunnel underneath it, then they came up in the Shack (was Voldemort already gone then?) and that's all I remember. But that thing about "look into my eyes"... WOW!

I wonder, when the rest of you read DH for the first time, do you really wonder about things, or just read on? Like the Patronus in the form of a doe, when you read about it, did you immediately wonder whose it could be, stopped reading?
