Snape Clues
 by David Haber
These are the clues contained in the pages of Harry Pottter and the Half-Blood Prince which support the possibility that Snape is not really a Death Eater, has remained loyal to Dumbledore, and all through the book, Snape is working on Dumbledore's Orders.

Also that Snape hesitated when he made it, and seemed to be forced by circumstances. But perhaps there is some loophole to that. As Snape spoke the ing curse, perhaps it counts as accomplishing the task. Dumbledore might not have told him, that he was surviving it. Or Dumbledore might have been "" for a while, and thus it counts as accomplishing the task. Nothing seems really convincing, but as J.K. Rowling knew that people would be thinking about a year or longer between book 6 and book 7, she could not have layed all the clues in the plot, as someone would have found them. So I guess a unique solution to these problems wll not be found until book 7. But I think, when J.K. Rowling said: You must not expect Dumbledore to do a Gandalf!; she possibly had an expression of hatred and revulsion in her face...... Possibly Dumbledore had Snape him because of the Unbreakable Vow, but maybe Dumbledore trusts Snape enough to help Harry beat the Dark Lord even when Dumbledore has d.
Just a thought. Posted by Anonymous on November 13, 2006 4:51 PM
I don't think Snape is evil. Unpleasant...but not evil. I think it's possible that DD silently comunicated to Snape that Harry was on the tower and that Snape had to draw the eaters away before DD weakened and his spell on Harry wore off. Posted by Kevin from Wisconsin on November 14, 2006 11:38 AM
if Sanpe turns out to be a bad person, I'll be more than upset and angry. I want to believe that everyone's got a second chance, that people are not only "good" or "bad" (just "complicated"). I don't want Jo to tell me that I can't trust people with sinful past... Correct me if I'm wrong but is there anybody at Hogwart's who used to be a bad person and now isn't? I don't think so.. I always wanted to believe that Snape was an exeption..:( Posted by vredna from Poland on November 15, 2006 02:42 AM
Snape has seen what Morty and company are capable of. He had the same kind of "awakening" that Regulus Black (R.A.B.) had, and he knew what would happen to him if he openly defied You No Poo. Luckily, he's just arogant enough to have realized he no good to any one . I think he mantained such close ties with the Malfoys is that he was in love with Narsessa, even became a eater to impress her, but learned because of his blood statice, she would never be allowed to even consider him.
But, who is the first person she runs to.....over the objections of her sister.. Posted by Kevin from Wisconsin on November 15, 2006 08:26 AM
In the HBP, Snape is frozen, turned upside down, revealing his underwear. In GOF, during the masked eater parade after the World Cup, the campground owner's wife is turned upside down, revealing her underwear. Wouldn't this imply Snape is still a eater--What's a better way to humilate someone by doing something that happened to you... Posted by Linda from Fort Wayne, IN on November 15, 2006 10:13 AM

I think Snape is still a good guy. In the end I think we'll find out he had a thing for Harry's mom Lily and when Voldemort ed her that's what turned him around since I really don't think he would have cared about Harry's dad. There are clues to this since we know it was Voldemort ing his parents that made him change sides. Voldemort gave Lily a chance to step aside, probably because he knew Snape liked her. And finally because he didn't Dumbledore because Dumbledore is not ! as this page originally said. My theory on that though is that it was never Dumbledore in this book at all. Wormtail took his place with polyjuice potion and maybe Snape was controlling him with a curse. The people under the curse seem to be able to function rather normally without constant supervision like the barmaid did. So if you were cursed, given the potion and told to act like this person you would do things like give Harry weird lessons... I know you think this is crazy but consider: Dumbledore acted weird the whole book His hand was messed up, the same one as wormtails What happens to wormtail after the beginning when he is hanging around to help snape? What was with the comment to harry from dumbledore about asking if it was really him and checking his favorite jam... a clue maybe. And in the end Dumbledore begging.. I don't think so. To Daniele Its not so absurd what you are saying. At a first glance it could have happened exactly the way you wrote in your article. Lets see what speaks in favour of what you suggest:
Pro: Harry never checks with the password (Raspberry jam) Contra: Why should he think of that, he went to ADs office
Pro: Dumbledores injured hand, just like Pettigrew Contra: We know from GoF that it was Wormtails right hand and it is never mentioned which of Dumbledores hand is injured. / I looked it up and Jo never says which hand! Did you find it?
Pro: The look on Snapes face when he did the AVADA KEDAVRA curse Contra: Dumbledore would not let someone in his place
Pro: After they turn back from the cave AD says: I am not worried Harry, I am with you Contra: In Chapter four HORACE SLUGHORN AD says to Harry: Dont worry Harry, you are with me.
What does not fit is Wormtail for Dumbledore. Since we know that in PoA Harry saved Peter Pettigrew his life. Anyway I thought it was an awesome idea, Pettigrew switching places with Dumbledore. And I agree with you on what you said about Snape. Posted by Mistral from Switzerland on November 16, 2006 10:50 AM
Danielle Dumbledore's hand just not left me in peace. So I pulled out again my copy of the HALF-BLOOD PRINCE and went page by page to make sure. It was as you said, it's Professor Dumbledore's right hand! Just like Pettigrew's... TEN house points to you! Posted by Mistral from Switzerland on November 16, 2006 2:48 PM
I think something might have happened to Dumbledore when he destroyed the Horcrux like it said so Snape put in Pettigrew to cover Dumbledore being more seriously hurt than we know or something like that. And maybe he didn't mean to Pettigrew all along but he took the unbreakable vow so he had to do it, since that was Draco's mission. Posted by Danielle on November 16, 2006 9:28 PM

I like the Petigrew as DD theory... I just have a few problems with it...
If you ask me to believe that Petigrew s DD could fool Harry...
Yes. Harry doesn't spend much time with DD untill the horcrux classes....
Could he fool Slughorn?
Most likely. Slughorn's got something of a reputation for his love of comfort.
He hasn't seen DD for some time, and the plan was just to "dangle" Harry in front of Sluggy and then threaten to take them away.
Now, could a DD doppelgnger fool Minerva Macgonagal...
Simply put, NO.
The only way I see it working, is if DD himself, invisable, is pulling the strings.
I could see sometimes DD having Petigrew playing the roll while DD himself is off looking for clues and horcruxs.
But there is NO WAY DD would send Harry off on a dangerous mission without going with him.
There are times in HBP when Harry notices the DD looks older and more tired then Harry has ever seen him....maybe the "real" DD feeling the strain of
keeping some one under the imperious curse? ...maybe...
I still don't see Minerva being fooled... Posted by Kevin from Wisconsin on November 17, 2006 06:57 AM
