J.K. Rowling goes Beyond the Epilogue

J.K. Rowling has announced in a new interview with that the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was vague on purpose. She admitted her original epilogue was "a lot more detailed," but now that Book 7 is in our hands, J.K. no longer has to hold back any information about Harry Potter, and has now given us a lot of new details about the story and the characters.

I would like to see a book written about the school's founders and what actually transpired between them from the day they got together to open Hogwarts to the day that things fell apart for them and all that.

Hi Beyond Hogwarts!

This is why I love this site so much: it gives you some much inside information!

I think it is so cool that Harry and Ron work in the Auror office and also that Hermione does something different to them. I always thought they would all be Aurors. It is also wicked that Harry talks about the Dark Arts to students, at least they be prepared when Voldemort 2 arrives!

I am sad that Harry Potter has ended but now it can be passed down! Also, I wish Lupin and Tonks hadn't d because they where so cool and they had a child and everything.

I would really want to hear more about Sirius... I still think that sirius' story is the most interresting. What about a book about him before he goes to Hogwarts?

Lizzy, I am going to assume that, normally, one would need N.E.W.T. grades to be an Auror, but do you really think the ministry would turn Harry, the Boy Who Lived, down? He seemingly d and came back to life, and then defeated Lord Voldemort. I do not think they would require anything more from him... they trust that he has the ability to take down dark wizards!

It might be too much, but what if Voldermort wasnt really making all the orders. What if there was another, more evil Sorcerer (beyond wizard possibly?) that was controlling Voldermort from behind the scenes. We never really got out of the familiar boundaries. Hogwars, Hogsmeade, London. What about the ENTIRE WORLD! what if there was a wizard so evil, so powerful, he was controlling every bit that happened? (cue dramatic music) I know it never happen, but it would be something. I just want to know more about the rest of the worlds wizard communities. Americas, Africas, Russias, Asia, I want to know about the whole world really, just some info, enough to keep my imagnation to build more and more about it all.

I think it is a real tribute to Jo's exceptional ability to involve the reader in her characters' lives and to create characters that truly live and breathe that so many posts basically say-we want to know more!

But, Jo's story has come full circle. She has told the story she set out to tell: a story of love; isolation; salvation; redemption; choice; and resurrection all within the context of the characters she created in the modern world. She crowbarred so much detail into the books that Harry and his friends live in our minds as more than characters on a page--they are real. For Jo to do the same in the epilogue would have been much like a plane that comes in for a landing only to take off again. Her epilogue was a mystical letting go meant to remind us of six years earlier but not to BE the start of anything new.

I didn't like the epilogue the first time around. If you reread it, I think you'll change your minds and see it as a soulful ("nebulous") letting go for her and for us. Saying goodbye is always hard, no less for us than for the creator of that wonderful world.

Does anybody understand why are Harry's eyes so much like his mothers? I've read the 5 times and i still can't figure it out.

Mike, give the woman a break, shes going to write an encyclopedia, and any real fan would buy it whether if they had all the information in the 7th book or not, and she doesnt fit the part of someone who would do this for a business "decision". i found the ending sincere and exactly how she wanted it to be.

I hope to see a sequel about Albus Potter. I think it is important that he is the only child with his father's eyes, and that he would have many adventures at school.

I have to say, that I don't really want to see another Harry Potter book that adds to the story, whether a prequel or not. She wrote the books, and they are finished.

However I would be on board for an encylopedia. Really, that would just consist of her gathering her 17 years worth of notes into some sort of order for a book. She wouldn't have to think of much else, just share with us all the back stories she couldn't find the place for in the books. All of that is already written.

Gaby, Jo has told us in every book that Harry has his mother's eyes. I used to read really contrived ideas into it but now that the series has ended, here's what I think: having "his mother's eyes" means something spiritual to Harry--he sees the world the same way she did with her dislike of the Dark Arts, her independence and resilience, and love. Having his mother's eyes, on the other hand, means something very physical and real to Snape who protected Harry because when he looked into those green eyes, he saw Lily. Remember Snape's last words to Harry--"look at me." He d looking into Lily's eyes.
