J.K. Rowling goes Beyond the Epilogue

J.K. Rowling has announced in a new interview with that the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was vague on purpose. She admitted her original epilogue was "a lot more detailed," but now that Book 7 is in our hands, J.K. no longer has to hold back any information about Harry Potter, and has now given us a lot of new details about the story and the characters.

I would like to remind Ms. Rowling that fans have come to love her endearing characters, and not including any details is a travesty.
And her reason?
"It felt very much that I had crowbarred in every bit of information I could... In a novel you have to resist the urge to tell everything."
Didn't she just tell us EVERYTHING about the Wizarding world in the previous six books? All those fascinating facts that made her fictional world alive made us hold on until the very end.
She said it was her desire for the final book to be "nebulous," something "poetic." Her previous six books could be described as such but they were very detailed, so I don't see any reason for holding out on us just to make something "nebulous" and "poetic."
Sure, she gave an interview that gives us details on what happened to the characters that we loved, but it's not in the book. Must we look back on this interview just to complete the experience whenever we try to read the entire series in the future?
We know this vague ending is a prelude to more books, but come on! I'm sure Ms. Rowling can make a complete series of seven Harry Potter books without having to make the last book's ending vague, and still come out with a ly Hallows that's even more "nebulous" and "poetic."
I believe her reasons are far from a creative standpoint. I think it was a business decision to make ly Hallows' ending vague because fans would hungrily snap up the next piece of fiction that she comes out with.
Funny but even with a detailed ending, we fans would still make a mad dash for the nearest bookstore when the next Harry Potter book comes out. Posted by Mike Leao from Manila, Philippines on July 27, 2007 06:56 AM
Didn't she also say about Luna and Neville, "Mr and Mrs Longbottom. The Secret is out now"? I thought she had made it clear that they do, in fact, marry. Is this incorrect? Posted by Charlie Tarbox from Gettysburg, Pa on July 27, 2007 06:57 AM
Good idea Collin! that would be cool. But I also think that maybe JK should move on. She is an amazing author, and maybe should do a new series. Posted by jake from missouri on July 27, 2007 07:17 AM
I thought the last book was fantastic. However, in this article, the references mention J.K said that Harry, Hermione and Ron worked in the ministry of magic- don't u need NEWTs to do that? just a little thing. i tihnk all the books are amazing! I really want to know more about what happened to Luna. she was one of my favorite characters. Also, I want to know what happened to the joke shop and I want details of Harry's wedding and who was invited. Who did Draco marry? Also, I don't know if any of you caught it, but if Harry was descended from one of the three brothers, and so was Voldemort's grandfather, wouldn't that make Harry and Voldemort very very very distantly related? Please correct me if I'm wrong. And finally, what about Mr. Weasley's car and the Muggle who was supposed to do magic? They were never mentioned. And where did the Dursley's go and what happened to them after the war? Did Harry ever see them again? Posted by jeanette from almond, wisconsin, USA on July 27, 2007 07:33 AM
Wouldn't it be something if Luna married Draco? Just a thought now that he's crossed over to the good side! Posted by Ashley from Irwin PA on July 27, 2007 07:51 AM
I don't really think Draco "crossed over to the good side" as much as he wimped out on the bad side. There is a difference... Posted by Dave Haber from Los Angeles, CA on July 27, 2007 07:52 AM
I think there should be a new series, like "Albus Severus and the Darkness of Tom Riddle's Son."
Joking! But I was still wondering what happened to Dudley and his parents after that. Posted by Siradanai from Bangkok,Thailand on July 27, 2007 08:13 AM
i still want to know who the headmaster is Posted by Snapes Fan from Ireland on July 27, 2007 08:53 AM
JKR did finish the story concretely -- in the last chapter before the Epilogue. The Epilogue was more of a bonus, just a glimpse of Harry & the others in the future, so we could have the pleasure of actually seeing him happy. I do not believe it was a commercial decision at all. If anyone doesn't need to think commercially, it is JKR! Posted by Beatrice from Abilene on July 27, 2007 09:19 AM
Well yes i want to know also who is the headmaster...well one of my favorite characters was dobby, so i felt so bad when Bellatrix ed him. ugh! well its part of the novel... Posted by Ryan from Puerto Rico on July 27, 2007 09:36 AM
OK, we've got Moody's eye buried in one forest; the resurrection stone in another forest; dementors and eaters still roaming around; evil can never be totally destroyed, only controlled; Malfoy's son Scorpius and Albus Severus beginning school...
Bring on "Hogwarts: The Sequel!" Posted by et from the wild west on July 27, 2007 11:01 AM
