J.K. Rowling goes Beyond the Epilogue

J.K. Rowling has announced in a new interview with that the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was vague on purpose. She admitted her original epilogue was "a lot more detailed," but now that Book 7 is in our hands, J.K. no longer has to hold back any information about Harry Potter, and has now given us a lot of new details about the story and the characters.

I always thought that Harry would be the next Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, maybe after he's an auror. Can't JK make a book about the rest of his life? Or one about his kids' years at hogwarts?
The book Tales of Beetle the Bard was fun to read. Thanks!

What happens to Dudley and the Dursley's?

Posted by Kevin from San Diego, California on July 6, 2010 8:26 PM

Kevin, according to Rowling the Dursleys do survive. Wouldn't you just LOVE to know how they cope with a year being protected by Dedalus Diggle and Hestia? She also says that Harry remains on "Christmas card" terms with Dudley, and that he drops in to visit, along with Ginny and the kids, when they happen to be in Dudley's neighbourhood. Harry's kids dread these visits. I guess Dudley grew up enough to understand that Harry got a pretty raw deal from Vernon and Petunia, and Harry, of all people, would understand the importance of family bonds and preserving them where possible no matter how tattered they might be. Perhaps Snape's memories might have given him some further insight into Petunia's bitterness as well.

I want to know what happened to Kreacher! Is he living with the Potters? Probably getting paid to work for them?

My burning question to Joanne is if she at all liked the Harry Potter movies, and if so, which was her favorite. I of course, have finished the series, followed by all the movies that have come out so far. But I must say that 6 irked me most. NOTHING like the book.I do hope that the Harry Potter and the ly Hallows "phenomenon" be a winner. And if it isn't, I am SO emailing the director. The actors have devoted half their lives to HP. They should be able to make at least one similar to the book.

I too would like to know what happened to Kreacher--also, I would like to know if Harry ever got a chance to talk with Snape's portrait in the headmaster's office and make his peace with him, considering he gave his second son Snape's name. Just think Snape would like to know that Harry recognizes his efforts..

Good question, Rebekah. I should think Kreacher did stay with Harry, because the only way Harry would be able to get rid of him would be to give him clothes, and he wouldn't do that. Suspect Kreacher would also be hurt if Harry offered money, so Harry would just give him orders every so often to go off and have fun for a day.
I have always assumed that Harry went back to live in Grimmauld Square, although it is never stated. I'm sure someone would have eventually found a way to remove Mrs Black's portrait!

Personally, i would give an another ending with Harry becoming hogwarts headmaster or minister of magic with Ron and Hermione following him as professors or as ministry employees.
