J.K. Rowling goes Beyond the Epilogue

J.K. Rowling has announced in a new interview with that the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was vague on purpose. She admitted her original epilogue was "a lot more detailed," but now that Book 7 is in our hands, J.K. no longer has to hold back any information about Harry Potter, and has now given us a lot of new details about the story and the characters.

I think that Fred was the other person she wasn't planning on ing. Honestly, when Percy showed up, I thought "Oh no, he's gonna ." Fred was totally out of nowhere. Posted by Lauren from Georgia on July 26, 2007 4:17 PM
i was delighted to read the interview and find out the information. It filled a few gaps that I was wondering about bot donner is right, I'm happy with the vagueness and I suspect a lot of people be (but not admit it).
I'm glad they were able to make a difference. Posted by Marjorie from New Zealand on July 26, 2007 4:18 PM
Kevin, that the two characters she hadn't planned on ing off originally were Remus and Tonks (as it now says in the article above...)
I'd also like to say that after my first read, I wasn't sure how I felt about DH especially the epilogue. But, after reading the comments on this website and especially what JKR said herself in the interview--which really support Donner's idea about not being told everything--I'm going into a second read enjoying every moment. JKR is truly an exceptional writer. It's amazing that she could maintain the intensity of writing about her Potterverse for so long.
On second read, the epilogue is really just right. Posted by Hannah from Los Angeles on July 26, 2007 4:38 PM
With the twins, I'm interested as to hear what happens to George.
I personally think realistically he would have in a sense d with his twin, losing all his confidence, and really diminishing his personality. He stops joking n lives out at the Burrow, quietly passing the days. Kind of sad ending for him, but i think it'd be realistic and help readers understand the impact that things like war have on people.
And he's a twin. His is a sad tale.
Those 2 were my favourites tho. Just laughed, instead of gettin ticked of at every little thing like the trio... Posted by Michael from Sydney, NSW on July 26, 2007 4:39 PM
I don't think it happen but I really hope that Rowling write another series of books about Harry's children. Maybe there come another Dark Wizard more powerful than Voldemort. Posted by John Wetfield from New York on July 26, 2007 4:40 PM
John from New York,
I hope that too, but I think it would be impossible for JK to top the story and background and everything of Voldemort, and the endless struggles against him. Posted by jake from missouri on July 26, 2007 5:46 PM
i agree with a few people. what happened to the rest of the weasleys? what about george's shop? she mentioned draco with a kid and wife but who? i think it would of been better if she detailed the epilogue more. more reading yes but it would be worth it! i really hope she comes out with some kind of book explaining more. I was wondering who the new headmaster for Hogwarts is. I am not for sure if I missed that part or not. Also was Harry just knocked out when he was talking to Dumbledore or did he really and come back? Posted by Dustin Davidson from Indiana on July 26, 2007 6:06 PM
personally, i don't want to know about the descendants of harry/ginny and ron/hermione -- you know they are all brilliant and wonderful. i'd much rather see a fleshing-out of the history of the wizarding world! let's see the earlier periods... how did azkaban come into being, what about diagon alley's beginnings? let's see the founding of hogwarts! I think she is planning somethig apart from the encyclopedia. Posted by Ali Akbar from Lucknow,Uttar Pradesh on July 26, 2007 6:40 PM
I love the idea of a prequel and hope that JKR does as well. The vagueness of the ending is just right, I had surmized many of the things that I read about in the article so I am happy that I think along the same lines as JKR. Losing Fred broke my heart! These books have been a huge part of our family's summer we always be able to look back with joy that we read these wonderful stories as a family. Well, Harry wanted to be an Auror, so it is just fitting that he should turn to be one, and Ron also wanted Mad-Eye to tell him he would be a good one. Besides that, the only other thing that Harry would have probably considered being would have been a Professional Quidditch Player, right? Hermione would definitely be great in her position at the Ministry, since she would fight for anybody's rights with great passion like she did for SPEW, like she said, "she wanted to make a difference". I loved the whole series. JK is such a great writer! After HBP, I could not think how she was going to get Harry through so many things to be able to Voldemort, but she did it magnificently! Every piece of the puzzle fell perfectly in it's place. What a Great Imagination! Thank you so much for some of the best books I've ever read. I had never felt that kind of excitement and anticipation as I was reading a book before! Posted by mcm from germantown, md on July 26, 2007 7:09 PM
