J.K. Rowling goes Beyond the Epilogue

J.K. Rowling has announced in a new interview with that the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was vague on purpose. She admitted her original epilogue was "a lot more detailed," but now that Book 7 is in our hands, J.K. no longer has to hold back any information about Harry Potter, and has now given us a lot of new details about the story and the characters.

i really appreciate the information. i was curious and really desperate with the last chapter, it was really foggy. when i finished reading the book i thought, "jk should really write a book on ginny or neville's point of view so we can see how thing where going in hogwarts..."
im glad that shes writing an encyclopedia, cant wait.

I loved the book! If only she could write about Harry's son, Albus, who had Harry's mother's eyes, as he grows up through Hogwarts. Maybe a little version of the marauders map could go into stores some time, or even a new version of the seventh book, in Ginny's eyes at Hogwarts, as Harry goes on his adventure.

I think that HP fans who obviously continue to write fan fiction pair up Neville and Luna (because, sorry JK, no one cares about Newt's nameless grandson) I'm actually kind of happy that it didn't exactly end the way I wanted it to, at least that means its unpredictable to me. For example I really would have liked the trio to have become Hogwarts teachers... Thought I haven't quite figured out what Ron should teach. I'm really exited about this encyclopedia, I hope she'll also write a book of Hogwarts in the time of Harry's parents, the beginning of the war would be interesting to see, and we could learn about the creation of the order...

GREAT view on things! i totally think that it's all possible. but i didn't like how you said, basically, that the people who think the epilogue was too vague have no imaginations. i've grown up with these characters and i care about each of them, so i was disappointed when the epilogue wasn't more detailed. of course we've all had our ideas about what happened to jk's wonderful characters, but, by now, they might as well be real people, you can't predict the future of real people, and nobody can really ever confirm their lives the way jk could. after all, she created the characters and their personalities. that is the reason we want more, not that our imaginations aren't great.

The true witch in this series is JK herself. What a genius she is to have created a world of fiction that feels so real. I feel like I am in mourning for the loss of dearly loved friends. Although the wait between all of the books seemed interminable, there was always something to look forward to. I want to know more about these characters and their lives, not because I want the story to continue, but because I feel like I really know them. Just as I call my friends to chat and catch up on whats going on in there lives, I feel a longing to know how Harry and Ginny are, what was there courtship like, where do Ron and Hermione live, how is Hagrid, did he hook up with Madame Maxime (could you imagine the size of those babies?!) I just feel a sadness, an emptiness that Harry and company used to fill.

I want to know what happens to George. How does he cope with Fred's ? Does he continue the joke shop? I think it would be cool if Lee Jordan became a member of the staff.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, this site. I find myself drawn to it every time I'm in the vicinity of a computer! Thanks alot Dave, I have something new to obsess over, since the series has ended. (Although I do hope for more from JK!) I enjoy reading all the comments - although I don't agree with a lot of them, they still make for fun reading - there are quite a few interesting, even plausible theories out there. It's pretty cool to go back through some of the earlier comments, before the last book was published and see how many theories were pretty close to actual events in the book. Its good to know I'm not alone in obsessing over all the details.

One thing I'm curious about, it's mentioned quite a few times in the series, is that Dumbledore discovered the 12 uses of dragon blood. Anybody know what they were? Seems odd that they come up so many times, yet the uses never really come into play.

My intention was not to make it sound so bad. So my apologies on that. The point I was trying to get across, is that Voldy is , and above all, Harry has had nothing to worry about in 19 years. That was the ultimate purpose of the epilogue, and with that I was very content. Sure, it would have been nice to find out whos doing what now, but I didnt see the necessity behind it. I believe Jo's point was strictly let you know where our favorite Trio has ended up since it has been them we have been following from book 1.

Now, i'm all for an encyclopedia to come out. But also keep in mind, that with the encyclopedia, comes limitations of what Jo might do later. Sure we know Harry is the lead Auror, but how did he get there? And why the sudden switch for Ron from Auror to Joke shop partner? The encyclopedia is going to give to much closure on to many characters. Without the encyclopedia, Jo could write in 5 years the after hogwarts life where Ron and Harry are both Aurors and their final assignment together is to track down a newly escaped Greyback the werewolf who is turning people into lycons, and massing an army (again, these are just my thoughts free flowing). But with the release encyclopedia, we never know if stories like that ever emerge now.

In closing, the imagination part is more meant as: we should leave the questions we all seek open. You never know what Jo plans to do in 5 years. And everyone here, along with millions of others across the world would buy another Harry Potter book, if we knew she was writing it.

i really injoyed all of the Harry Potter series (i read the series 5 times) but i would like to read one more adventure maybe with Harry's son - James with Harry worked in there somewhere.
i would love to hear about Harry's wedding...and about every one else in the other books, like cho chang, and i agree with someone else that jk should have given lupin and the others a proper burial.
