J.K. Rowling goes Beyond the Epilogue

J.K. Rowling has announced in a new interview with that the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was vague on purpose. She admitted her original epilogue was "a lot more detailed," but now that Book 7 is in our hands, J.K. no longer has to hold back any information about Harry Potter, and has now given us a lot of new details about the story and the characters.

well, i only would like to ask Jo why she had ed Fred... He could have been alive after all... and Percy, instead of him, could have got ed... and regarding the headmaster (mistress) of hogwarts, the post ought to be deserved by Prof. McGonagall...

Pavan: I read J.K.'s discussion of the epilogue to mean that McGonagall WAS headmistress of Hogwarts, but that she's getting old and yet another headmaster has taken over in the course of the 19 years...

I would love to see a book about Godric Griffandor and the likes and of how even the idea of Hogwarts (and the name) came about

I've loved the Harry Potter journey. And found the last 3 books very emotional. I would love to know more about Severus' relationship with Lily and with Harry and also about his life. Dumbledore was a very interesting character and i would like to know more about him too.

Andrew from B.C., you raised a really good point about Harry and Ginny and I sort of felt similarly except for a few thoughts that came to me about why there seemed to be that distance and inattention.

While Ginny was giving Harry his birthday snog, Ron happened in on them and rounded on Harry later about why was he messing Ginny up again. Ron said Ginny was getting over it (not over Harry but I took that to mean used to the situation-remember she understood why Harry had to cut their relationship off until LV was vanquished). After that, Harry was very careful around Ginny even when he desperately wanted to be with her. Seems to me to be a true statement of love-wanting what was best for Ginny and not just satisfying his needs of the moment. Anytime, Ginny was mentioned, it seemed that Harry listened particularly attentively. But, being a hunted man, he dared not communicate with her in any way for her safety. He also had to guard against what Voldemort might see if he connected with Harry's thoughts.

I had the feeling throughout the book that Harry was able to keep going with greater strength after each remembrance of Ginny or thought of what she was doing at that moment. There were many of those moments but the situation had changed drasctically from the previous year when the beast inside Harry would dance the Conga. Harry had changed, too.

By the epilogue, Harry and Ginny would have known each other for twenty-five years. They weren't exactly young lovers anymore, but my guess is that spark was still there. Maybe it had just matured into much more than just sparks.

i think i would only lke the encyclopedia hogwarts a history anda book about severus snape's life and thats all. after that jk could write a different series. also someone mentioned that because harry has the elder wand he could never be disarmed or anything but thats not true harry used the elder wand to repair his other wand so just because he has the stick doesnt mean he has to use it. he could just keep it at home and use his other wand.

thanks dave for this website
thanks rowling for this series

Did anybody spot the person "who manages to do magic late in life" that JKR mentions on her site?

She says that it isn't Aunt Petunia (a relief to all, no doubt - a witch with a compulsive cleaning disorder, the mind boggles!), but I didn't spot anybody doing magic who previously hadn't in my first voracious reading (1.00pm Sat - 4.00pm Sun).

Anybody spot one? Or shall we wait for the encyclopedia?

The fact that Fred d and percy was there right after he came back to the Weasley side made it much sadder but more interesting that Fred d and Percy did not. That was the only part where i cried.

I can't wait for the encyclopedia. Maybe it have sections like Hogwart's Past and Hogwart's future. I really want to find out what happend to EVERYONE from DA. I image George to continue running the shop and maybe did something in the shop honoring Fred's memory. Lupin and Tonks was so sad! And I want more details about Harry and Ginny
Book 7 was really great. The final chapters are so suspenceful! I was really nervous about weather Harry d or not and was reileved when he lived. JKR is a great writer, I think Harry Potter is the best books of all time!

i really liked the last book, but why did sooo many people have to ? (fred, lupin, tonks, colin creevey, dobby, ect.) anyways the sound of a harry potter encyclopedia sounds like a reallly good idea.

Eileen- I totally agree with your shock over her ing Fred. That was hands down the that impacted me the most in the book, since Fred/George were always my favorite characters. I found it particularly sad that there was not the mourning period that there was for other characters.

The big questions I had left at the end of the book, was whether or not Harry, Ron, and Hermione ever graduated from Hogwarts. And what happened to Kreacher. I think I'm content with using my imagination for the rest. Of course I would love a series on Albus Severus Potter!

Thank you J.K. for such a wonderful series of books!

I didn't think Ron would become an Auror. And I assume that Harry must return to Hogwarts to get his grades required to be an Auror (although I suppose they could make an exception for The Boy Who ed You-Know-Who). I thought that Ron might go and take over the Joke store in Hogsmeade (as Fred and George mentioned they were thinking of buying it). I thought that Hermione could work in a Muggle Relations Department, and that Mr Weasley would go on to become Minister Of Magic, and then probably soon after coming into office, retire for a quieter life and continue 'magiking up' muggle objects.

I thought that Neville would be the teacher returning, and I also hope that at some point in his career would become Head of Gryffindor House. I think that Draco would have been a good return aswell, teaching Defence Against The Dark Arts or Potions.

Also I wondered on Voldemort. Nearly Headless Nick tells Harry that few take the path of being a ghost. However, I thought that since Voldemort feared so much, he would probably wish to remain as a ghost forever.
