J.K. Rowling goes Beyond the Epilogue

J.K. Rowling has announced in a new interview with that the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was vague on purpose. She admitted her original epilogue was "a lot more detailed," but now that Book 7 is in our hands, J.K. no longer has to hold back any information about Harry Potter, and has now given us a lot of new details about the story and the characters.

That's how I took it too, Joe!

It's perfectly possible for a teacher at a boarding school to be married and it has never been considered unprofessional. Often in the old days when teachers did live in, married quarters would be provided for senior teachers. This is still the case for the headmasters and headmistresses of some private schools. Otherwise teachers' spouses might seeking lodgings nearby. Given that Neville can disapparate, he can easily disapparate from Hogsmeade to the Leaky Cauldron when he is off duty. Or Hannah can disapparate to Hogsmeade and walk up to the school.

I suspect Jo left all the teachers in an implied state of celibacy to avoid bringing a whole lot of extraneous characters into the story!

Maybe I am being really stupid here but....

If the Elder wand is unbeatable, how did Dumbledore ever defeat Grindlewald in a duel? In the DH it says that the wand exchanges hands through , not through duels-in any case, whoever had the wand would remain victorious.

And yet Dumbledore beat the unbeatable wand...how?

i would really like to see a few generations later how much the potter name is like valued or how much of a hero his family is looked at.

No, the Elder Wand doesn't exchange hands through - remember Draco Malfoy disarmed Dumbledore even though he didn't him. Therefore the wand is beatable in a sense - you have to disarm the owner. I guess Dumbledore found a way to disarm Grindelwald. The wand only works if actually USED to defend or attack I suppose - just holding the wand wouldn't do it.

I just finished reading the 7th book.. it's so exciting!
And answering the article's question, I'd like to know more about Hagrid and his so "common" pets.
Also, where are the Potters living? In 12 Grimmauld Place?

I found out that Teddy Lupin isn't a werewolf, but he is a metamorphmagi.

What disturbes me most about the epilogue is that the Houses are still intact and that the same rumours and prejudices are attached to them. Little Albus Severus fears that he be in Slytherin.. what an awful beginning for a school career for a young child! I hate Ron's remark to Rosie about not getting too friendly with Draco's son. They are already turning their kids against each other and establish the ideal conditions for bullying ala James and Snape, not to mention an ideal breeding ground for another Voldemort. I was shocked to learn nothing has changed really.

I found the comments from Geoginia and Elizabeth made earlier on (p.7/8) very interesting. They raised the question whether Voldemort was evil from an early age or not. While I have to agree with Elizabeth who said Voldemort was already showing the compulsive behaviour of a psychopath at the age of 11, this still leaves the question WHY Tom Riddle was who he was... as we know, Riddle was conceived under the influence of a love potion. Merope Gaunt gave it to Tom Riddle Senior. While I understand her actions in a way ( she lead a dreadful life threatened and tormented by her father and brother and wanted to escape from it) this must still be seen as an act of violation. In my opinion, she raped T.R.Senior; she drugged him and took him therefore by force. She destroyed his life and his relationship with Cecilia. I think in this lies the reason for Voldemort's evil: he came into being by force, not love (as opposed to Harry, who was the child of pure love and therefore protected in powerful ways). Rowling's main theme in the books is the power of love, that pure love gives the loved person abilities that can be life-changing (see Snape's love for Lily which made him turn his back on evil) or life-saving ( in Harry's case).
Voldemort was not conceived by love and turned out to be evil.
This is of course a daring statement and not applicable to real life; think about a woman who gets pregnant through rape and decides to keep the child. Of course this child is not condemned to be bad.

When I first got to know Harry, It was because of my sons wanted to see the first movie. Thats all I remenber, after that I fell In love with the books and the movies and everything. I have lived a wonderful experience thru the whole story. I believe that mrs. Rawlings has enough imagination to write as many books as she wants, one thing is for sure, harry always be present in our lives, he is inmortal, the biggest wizard ever, and his story be known forever. One question though, why did harry never visit the caribbean or some tropical imaginary contry?. all around the world, we want a little piece of his story.
