J.K. Rowling goes Beyond the Epilogue

J.K. Rowling has announced in a new interview with that the epilogue of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was vague on purpose. She admitted her original epilogue was "a lot more detailed," but now that Book 7 is in our hands, J.K. no longer has to hold back any information about Harry Potter, and has now given us a lot of new details about the story and the characters.

Reader Comments: (Page 2)

I hope the epilogue was a sort of road J.K. laid out for a book in the future about possibly Albus Severus Potter as only he had Harry's/Lily's eyes. It would be great reading about a brand new character and then having Harry and other characters popping up every so often.

I would LOVE to read a preqel, and esp. about the days of Harry's mother and father at school. That would be such a good idea. We are all hooked aren't we?

I know I'm in the minority, but I LIKE the vagueness of the book...we don't have to know EVERYTHING about everything...that's what books are for - you to use your imagination...but in this day and age, people want every last little detail revealed...I prefer to use my own head to fill in the blanks and not be told what every last thing...

I would really like to know what two characters she didnt plan to but d in the 7th book. Does anyone know?

J.K. tells us that Harry and Ron works as aurors in the Ministry. But why are they aurors if there aren't any Dark Wizards left? And Dumbledore didn't like the Ministry, so Harry shouldn't work there if you ask me.

Well, everyone on our side didn't like the Ministry towards the end. But we know now that Dumbledore didn't turn down the Minister job because he "didn't like the Ministry". He turned down the job time after time because, after his experience with the Grindelwald and the Hallows, he didn't trust himself in a position of power...

And I think it's important that J.K. pointed out in her new comments, that it was a "new ministry", one that Harry, Ron and Hermione themselves, helped to shape and create.

I personally like to think that, after the way he was treated by the Ministry, Stan Shunpike eventually rose to become Minister for Magic...

I can't wait for the encyclopedia and any prequel/sequel JK might write. I love the HP series, they are some of the best books I have ever read.

The information was a real lift and I'm glad Harry went with his dream of becoming an Auror. My friend didn't like the epilogue but I'm sure this change her mind...

Here! Here! to Donner's comment about us not having to know EVERYTHING! What a gift we all have to have an author as talented as JK in our world - to make us all be thrilled and obsessed with such a magical place!

Dave - Thanks for a great web site and allowing us a place to celebrate/grieve/obsess/discuss/and love our Potter Books!

there be no prequel, jo said that, although i really wish there was going to be one. and i really do hope that there be an encyclopedia. its been wierd, when i was about 9, i used to try and make things fly up in the air...

Great, some more information! Thanks Dave, for putting this article up! It (kind of, but not really) puts my mind at ease about the trio's jobs and such, but there's still so much I would like to know!

I think that Luna might end up with Dean, after all that time together in Shell Cottage, bonding perhaps, and when he offered a hand to her at Hogwarts, later on.

I would LOVE a prequel about Hogwarts during Harry's parents school years; who else would like to see how Lily ended up with James even though it seemed as if she resented him?

And I hope JK decides to write that encyclopedia, it's a great idea, and I would definitely buy it!

I loved the last book also, but now I feel incomplete. The epilogue made me want to know more. What is Ginny doing now? How Harry's children turn out? Ahhh...the questions keep on going and going, but your article answered some of my many questions. Thanks!

I know I, as many others too, would love to see a prequel about Harry's parents during their years at Hogwarts or a new "series" about Harry's/Ginny's and Ron's/Hermione's children at Hogwarts.

I don't think I would read an encyclopedia if she wrote one. The wonderful thing about reading is that it alows the reader to use his/her own imagination to fill in the details. Why do we need to have every detail spelled out for us in such a concrete way, have we no imagination of our own? This is one reason the movies fall short after reading the books, because while reading we create the characters from the descriptions but springing from our visualization of that description. For me the movies were usually wrong.
