Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts 1 and 2

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is dense with information that is crucial to the overall story. It's definitely too much to stuff into a two hour movie.
There are many challenges in adapting a novel or series of novels into scripts and movies. Plot lines are always reduced and/or eliminated. The work that has been done so far on the Harry Potter series has had reasonable success. The millions of dollars of revenue prove that the Harry Potter Fans will pay for anything HP, but will they pay for two movies made from one book? If the Studio thinks fans will not pay for and sit through one longer than average movie (3 hours plus, a rule broken successfully by the Lord of the Rings movies), will it be possible they'd think fans will happily pay for two films?
So, do you think it's possible that the final Harry Potter adventure, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be made into two movies? And if it is, where would you end movie number one and start movie two?UPDATE! 3/12/08: Producer David Heyman said last night that It will be officially announced soon that book 7 WILL BE TWO FILMS! Then the next film would start with the action at Malfoys. Posted by John on July 7, 2009 9:16 PM
My 'guess' for how they split the films is thus.
I guess that they end DH Pt.1 after they steal the cup from Gringotts and have escaped on the back of the dragon. I appreciate it is a fair way through the book, but, consider the first film, dedicated to the search for the horcruxes and we get all the dramatic action of the Gringotts break in and escape. They jump of the dragon by the lake, are having a giggle and Harry's head explodes in pain. Voldemort knows and Harry announces 'We have to go back to Hogwarts' - dramatic music and ending...
That way Pt.2 can be dedicated to the battle of hogwarts - do actual justice to 'The Princes Tale' and be a film just full of thrilling moments.
You never know... Posted by Orlando from England on July 8, 2009 08:07 AM
Yates has said he's thinking of splitting the films when the trio are captured by the Snatchers in the forest. The next film should start at Malfoy Manor. Posted by Anonymous from Arizona on July 8, 2009 11:41 AM
I think that the movie should split when Ron leaves, that would make me cry. And it would get everyone to come and see if he comes back. Which he . Posted by Helen from Ravenclaw Common Room on July 12, 2009 06:51 AM
If it has to be two movies,i think it should be split when they are caught by the snatchers. then carry on at 'Malfoy Manor'.
But if am honest it should be one movie, because the number seven is part of the story, for example, there is seven horcruxes, also chapter four of the last book, 'The seven potters'.
Although, it really doesn't matter, because compared to the book it be dissappointing, some people say that they can't put it all in, but if they can put stuff in that is not in the book, surly they can put everything from the book into the movie aswell. They miss to much out. Posted by T.J from Burton on July 12, 2009 12:13 PM
I believe that there is not a logical place to stop the book and they should just make the movie as long as it needs to be. Or if they split it into two movies(which they shouldn't) they should premiere them one after the other so you can buy one ticket and see both movies at the same time. It wouldn't be logical to do it any other way. The movies wouldn't make sense. I think they should just make a 3-4 hour movie. All the real Harry Potter fans sit through it and it be an excellent movie. The series was meant to be a septology not an 8 piece series. So I say make a 4 hour movie. I totally sit through the entire thing! Posted by HermioneGranger24 from Macomb on July 13, 2009 06:57 AM

I suspect that the first part of the ly Hallows movie adaptation end when Ron leaves Harry and Hermione at their camp. I think that the movie makers want to do an 'Empire Strikes Back' by finishing on a sombre, 'all hope is lost' type of mood - this usually makes for a more inspirational finish (much like Return of the Jedi). I also think that the first part of DH be a little slower, setting the scene and hopefully filling in the blanks from the movie adaptation of HBP - There are a number of plotlines which were 'glossed' over, even ignored, which could make the DH movies disjointed. These gaps could still be partially filled in the form of flashbacks, though I suspect that the film still have to deviate from the book to achieve continuity. I hope that the second part of the DH movie be more action-packed and fast paced. The battle for Hogwarts needs to be epic and climatic on a massive scale - anything less and the movie be heavily criticised. The HBP movie was certainly not my favourite, but I think (and hope) that there is still enough time in two movies (hopefully around 5 hours running time combined) to produce a worthy conclusion. I think it be a horrible wait between the two. 6 months of cliffhanger (even though i know the ending?
They could also end it right when they start to learn about the ly hallows, but thats kinda late in the book. what i really want is a 1 hour end fight... Posted by Jake from St. Louis, Missouri on July 22, 2009 7:30 PM
They should make it like a five hour movie with an intermission. I sit through five hours of harry potter, no problem. Posted by aranel on July 23, 2009 10:19 AM
I would like to say that I am impressed with the work that has been done in this website. Honestly, I am sad that it took me too long to find it; congrats to those who write the articles they are very well written. I would love to see 2 movies made out of book seven and I must say they should have tought about long before, because than maybe they would have done the other movies longer as well. Is it confirmed that the movie be divided in two? If it does, I think Dobby's would be the best shot to end the first movie. Though I'm afraid that Dobby be cut again from the movie. I've heard that Kreacher play Dobby's role. It won't be supportable if the film makers really do the change. I'll hope that JK won't let them to do that. It is confirmed that there be two movies. I really hope Kreacher won't replace Dobby, too. I like the idea of the second movie starting at Malfoy Manor. Posted by Anonymous from Arizona on July 24, 2009 10:49 AM
