Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts 1 and 2

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is dense with information that is crucial to the overall story. It's definitely too much to stuff into a two hour movie.

There are many challenges in adapting a novel or series of novels into scripts and movies. Plot lines are always reduced and/or eliminated. The work that has been done so far on the Harry Potter series has had reasonable success. The millions of dollars of revenue prove that the Harry Potter Fans will pay for anything HP, but will they pay for two movies made from one book? If the Studio thinks fans will not pay for and sit through one longer than average movie (3 hours plus, a rule broken successfully by the Lord of the Rings movies), will it be possible they'd think fans will happily pay for two films?

So, do you think it's possible that the final Harry Potter adventure, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be made into two movies? And if it is, where would you end movie number one and start movie two?

UPDATE! 3/12/08: Producer David Heyman said last night that It will be officially announced soon that book 7 WILL BE TWO FILMS! Click here for more info!

All I have to say is I missed Peeves. In every single book he cracked me up. I rolled laughing sometimes from what he said or did. I can't believe the movies left him out...

Well this is my problem...the wait! It is taking me forever to realize how far away november 18th really is and i don't want to wait until 2010 to watch part 1 of the seventh book!
I know i should stop being impatient, but I think that in some cases [such as this], me being impatient is easily related to.

I would though REALLY enjoy it if they did the first part is all of the stuff before the battle at hogwarts [i feel like they can't make that part of the movie big enough] and also it would be great if they devoted alot of time to harry/dumbledores conversation when harry is "". The last part i hoep they would spend alot of time on is the 19 years later or however long it is. the movies just feel incomplette if they only do like a 5-20 minute scene.

think back to lord of the rings, they left us expecting more but obivously we weren't going to get anything else.

it would be pretty bad if they left us in an atmosphere of "i wish there was another movie" to "that was worth the wait."

It doesn't matter if DH is one or two nmovies but I agree with many here that the last three movies were crap, I really hope that the HBP is better, and I'm also angry at the guy who plays Dumbledore now, I mean HALLO he has totally got the character wrong

And... I don't know if this has been said earlier, but I read that someone said that Harry and Voldy are related and they are NOT! I think you must have thought that the founders of hogwarts were related but they were just friends, right? anyone, correct me if I'm wrong

My opinion is that when Ron destroys the first horcrux, is when they should end Movie 1. It's a major turning point in Ron's character; It finally puts him level with Harry. It also, is the beginning of the End of Voldemort.

Mikaela
Voldemort and Harry are related distantly through the Peverells. Harry is a descendent of Ignotus Peverell. Voldemort was a descendent of one of the other brothers. That's why the Resurrection stone was in his family.

I would split part one and two of DH after The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore. Harry and Hermione would just be back from Godric's Hollow. Harry would have read what Rita wrote about Dumbledore and would have argued with Hermione. The first movie could end with Hermione saying that Dumbledore really did love Harry. That wouldn't be a very suspenseful place to cut the movie, but I think it would be nice if the action went down after the escape from Godric's Hollow. This ending could be a little bit like a resolution.

as i just read the portion of the book, the movied probably should end, revolving around Ron's return and smashing of the Horcrux, as I stated above. It not only happens to be the midpoint of the book; But the very next chapter, they head off to the Lovegoods and the beginning of the Hallow storyline begins.

I also believe the Movie should End with Ron's explanations; And then Begin the Next one at that exact point; After he's destroyed the Horcrux, as he's explaining the Taboo and the Deluminator etc. The rest of the book, just starts flowing at that point.

I think they should indeed devide dh into 2 movies but get enough info in the first movie to keep you going for the second
ps I LOVE DH

I think it's a great idea to split DH into two movies. I really enjoyed all the HP movies up until OotP, which got nerfed so bad, it's silly. I just finished reading it again after watching the movie, and was apalled about how much had been cut/changed/made silly etc.

For example, the fight in the mystery department between the Order and the Eaters was just silly. Everybody FLYING around like some sort of dragons, it just doesn't fit my imagination of any kind of magic described in the books. For example, in DH, they are amazed by the fact that Voldemort can fly, a proof of his astonishing power. In the scene mentioned here above, everyone seems to be able to fly. It doesn't match apparition either, since we see Fred & George do that in another scene in the movie.

I hope they don't mess up HBP as well...

welll... ive not been to this site from quite some time... but it's great that you all are discussing this...well...i think it would be great if the first movie ends with luna's dad sayin "are u referring to the sign of the ly hallows?"...and harry ron and hermoine looking totally confused!... i think that brings a lot of suspense because i remember i had to leave at the exact same point while reading the book... and i felt soo mad..since it was very suspenseful and all... but i hope they dont wreck HBP!... OOTP was pretty cut up...ok actually ver cut up... but im so psyched for HBP!... and dave...great going with this site...its amazing!

Well, some people wouldn't want to sit through a 3hour+ film, personally i would, but if they split the film in 2, then would we have to wait a whole year for the second part?

Posted by Milli from Manchester on August 12, 2008 3:24 PM

I hate waiting a year for the second part too, but a wait is better than another short and very changeg film like OotP.

I also would sit through a very long (3 hour+) movie, but there are the people who wouldn't. Since DH is going to be split in two parts, I would love it if each part could be 2 and 1/2 hours, totalling a five hour film.

Even if the film is being split into 2 parts the producers still cut out bits that shouldn't be cut out. I think that Rowan Atkinson should be cast to play Xenophilius Lovegood.
