Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Parts 1 and 2

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is dense with information that is crucial to the overall story. It's definitely too much to stuff into a two hour movie.

There are many challenges in adapting a novel or series of novels into scripts and movies. Plot lines are always reduced and/or eliminated. The work that has been done so far on the Harry Potter series has had reasonable success. The millions of dollars of revenue prove that the Harry Potter Fans will pay for anything HP, but will they pay for two movies made from one book? If the Studio thinks fans will not pay for and sit through one longer than average movie (3 hours plus, a rule broken successfully by the Lord of the Rings movies), will it be possible they'd think fans will happily pay for two films?

So, do you think it's possible that the final Harry Potter adventure, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be made into two movies? And if it is, where would you end movie number one and start movie two?

UPDATE! 3/12/08: Producer David Heyman said last night that It will be officially announced soon that book 7 WILL BE TWO FILMS! Click here for more info!

If you think about it, RD, Dobby has to be included unless they cut out how he SAVES THEM FROM CERTAIN DOOM! But seeing him in the book was hard enough. On screen I'm going to cry.

And I agree with everyone who said HP shouldn't be split. I mean, LOTR was LAME! HP RULES! What would they cut out of the DH anyway?

Heck yeah make it into 2 movies! If you're a true fan you'll wait to see the second one I know that I would. I was hopeing that it would be a 2 part movie, I kind of wish that 3,4 & 5 were split into 2 movies each because they left out so much in those movies. If you never read the books than that's fine, but for the ones who have read all the books the movies are still good, but we know that there was more to the movies than what was in it. So I think that it would be an awesome idea if it was in 2 movies.

I think that if they are going to make it two films, they should make it two films true to the storyline of the book! In OOTP, they cut important scenes (interview with Quibbler, banning from Quidditch, Percy's estrangement, Firenze), changed important scenes (final talk with Dumbledore, telling Dumbledore about attack on Mr Weasley, Cho told Umbridge without being cursed) and shifted orders around so much (Trelawney fired even before Hagrid back, instead of it being a question of which would go first), but they added in all the emotional change that was a subplot at best in the book! I was recently rewatching the films and I had to stop watching the Goblet of Fire because it was making me cringe, it was so poorly changed, so please, if they're giving a half-decent amount of time they have to actually do the films right!

I've always envisioned the first movie ending after Ron returns and destroys the first Horcrux, but I think it would be cool to have the Credits roll right after Xeno Lovegood says: "Are you refering to the sign of the ly Hallows?"

I think that with 6 hours of time they can make a successful potter movie. However, a GREAT deal of time must be focused on more crucial parts, such as the midair fight with the eaters, Kreacher's Tale, Malfoy Manor, Wandlore, Harry's Hallow obsession, and the final battle at Hogwarts.

Dobby needs to return for movie 6. If he doesn't, how on earth are we gonna feel sad when he s? Afterall, you can hardly care for a character who you hardly remember.

I totally agree with Josh, especially about the end of the first movie. If it ends like this, everyone be ing to read the book(if there are any who didn't read it already) so JKR makes more money out of it. They should've thought of that. We want it to be like this, and managers like to be like this too.

Now that we know it is going to be split in two i think they should split it at the pinot when Xenophilius Lovegood says "are you referring to the sign of the ly hallows?"

I actually think they end it right as Harry and Hermione Disapparate from Bathilda Bagshot's house. It'll be kind of like the end of the third movie; they'll jump out the window, and the camera catch the fear-engaged profiles of their faces as they twist in midair, Hermione's hair fanning out among the snow and -- credits.

Then they start the next movie as Voldemort prowls the streets of Godric's Hollow, as a kid in a pumpkin suit boldly compliments, "Nice costume mister!", and the aunce laugh innocently ( they put Harry in Blue's Clues pajamas again? If you're not aware of that see the 'Mischief Managed' comments).

So anyway, it would be a clean, exciting cut in the middle of the story, and probably interesting for us fans, too, if they do it right.

Okay... I partially agree with Sarah... They NEED Dobby in the movie. What I DON'T agree with is that...

1) LOTR was NOT lame.

2) If you are a TRUE HP fan, you WILL wait around to watch the other half. If you don't, obviously you don't care too terribly much for HP.

I don't know what they could cut out, or stop at, because it's all really important.

I hope they make HPDH into two three hour movies! GOF and OOTP left out so much. I am into full anticipation mode for HBP! I have never read a book more than once but have read all the HP books multiple times. And so have my children!

I agree with Donald, make two 3 hour films and call it a day! No way to do justice to the books with only one film. Real fans be happy for more and be content to wait.

Well, now that the KNOW it be in two halfs, I think they should stop right before Dobby's . So, when Harry see's the knife in his chest, then it says... TO BE CONTINUED. I think that would be a really big clif-hanger!

I have to agree with many of you about the stupidity of keeping it under two hours (for kids sake) come on I have seen kids sit in front of a TV all day and not move. The Lord of the Rings movies were like three hours plus and I know several kids that sat through those. Since the last few were rated pg-13 we no longer have to contend with little ones sitting still now do we.
I definitely thought 3, 4, and 5 were slaughtered not just cut out parts either they ever changed people and things that happened. But the fourth one was the biggest slaughter job I think I have ever seen. I was very disappointed in the relationship development between Harry and Sirius and the lack of showing just how much it affected Harry. If we follow that line then there should be no tears at Dumbledor's and I believe that it is tragic to make any of the s just a thing that happens. If they can't split it up or make it longer to get the book right then I am not even sure I want to watch it and after four I seriously considered boycotting the movies till they got it right.
I think that the idea of ending it after Dobby is buried is a wonderful idea if that is not possible then a good cliff hanger would be right after they get caught by the snatchers before they go to the Malfoy's Manor. And start the second at the gates of the Manor. I think that would leave people hanging and irritated but wanting more. Anyway thank you for the chance to voice my opinion. I don't have many friends that are as obsessed with Harry Potter as I am.
