Final Deathly Hallows Debates: Who Lives and Who Dies?
We know for sure that some characters are going to die in Deathly Hallows. Last year in an interview, J.K. Rowling said that two characters die who she had not originally thought would die in the end of the story. That means at least two characters die, but probably more. And that's probably not counting Harry and/or Voldemort. So who lives and who dies? Tell us who you think will die, and more importantly, why you think so.

I think that at least one of Harry's closest friends , and feel that, sadly, it be Ron. Remember how Lupin and Serious told Peter that he should've d for his friend..just as they would've d for them...that may have been a bit of foreshadowing, and as someone posted before, the chess game from the 1st book shows that Ron has the character to do something like that. I think that Hermione, who is becoming exceptionally sed, be underestimated by the eaters because she is a "Mudblood", but then because pride goes before the fall..she defeats them.
I do also worry that both Harry and Voldemort because of the prophesy were it says "neither can live while the other survives"...if you drop off the last part of the sentence it reads "neither can live"

DissentingVoice: Thank you! I agree 100%. I'm sick of people thinking that would be the reason Harry d.
Also, just re-read HBP and I'm actually getting a bit worried about DH. I am an easy cryer. I cried for the last 100 pages or so, and thats having read it several times. As excited as I have been, as it gets this close I'm getting worried though.

Your right about the Lemony Snicket, but remember, those books were written to have an ending where the bad guys won, otherwise, it wouldn't be called a series of unfortunate events.
The characters i think are going to be ed off are either Ron or Hermionie, because there part of that special trio, and it have a huge emotional effect on the reader, if they are a solid reader of the HP series. And the other posibility is Harry. A. because if this Horcrux stuff about his scar happens to be true, of coarse he is going to be ed off. B. because the Harry Potter books and the character, have been built up steadily so that he sacrifice himself to defeat Voldemort, so he can save the 'wizarding world'.
Also, i think that Snape and/or Draco have a change of heart (even though Snape is OBVIOUSLY still on the good side) because Malfoy either re-deem himself, or get ed. Personally i'd prefer it if he got ed. More fun that way.
One last thing, its pretty much certain that Aberforth is the bartender at the Hogs Head, and that Dumbledore either come back to life via a Horcrux, or still be able to contact Harry (through dreams or thoughts).
Great site Dave by-the-way, great theories, and very well done, a round of applause to you and those that helped.

Draco Voldemort and I believe he is the one the prophecy is talking about. He is the same age as Harry and Neville (Remember Apparation classes...Draco was in the class with Harry cause he was too young). Draco ing Voldemort. He is marked by the Dark Lord as an equal (the eater tattoo/mark).

Harry is a great wizard with great capacity to love others. He truly has only a handful of things that are important to him: Ron, Hermione and magic. He has lost his parents, Sirius and Dumbledore. More and more JK reminds us how alone he feels. How to finish the book so there can be no more? Take away Ron, Hermione and Harry's ability to do magic. Obviously he must Voldemort. In the end, Harry have lost everything he holds dear doing the one thing he must do -- the ultimate put-upon hero. And JK makes sure no one writes any more books about Harry because he doesn't exist anymore as the Harry we knew and loved in seven books.

Michael C from Pasadena,
I guess I misread you saying that Harry has his soul sucked out of his body when you wrote, "What I think happens, though, is that the Dementors suck out the soul of Voldemort and the horcrux part of Harry's Scar. I think the 'clue' that was accidentally put into PoA was at the lakeside where Harry and Sirius were being ed by the dementors--IN THAT SCENE HARRY HAS TWO SOULS SUCKED OUT OF HIM, one from the forehead, one from the mouth.."
Can you see how one can easily read what you wrote as saying that Harry is having his soul sucked out of him?
I guess we'll disagree on that scene in the movie because from my viewing of it, it looks more like Harry's energy is just being sucked from the left and the right as the dementors move around his body. I guess I also think that it's not coming from a particular part of Harry's head because you can see that the energy-draw (I guess that's a better term than face-suck) draws from Harry's entire face and then is pulled in the direction of the dementor. It's not just coming from one spot on his face.
Do I think there are other things in the PoA movie that foreshadow stuff in books 6 & 7 than Ron and Hermione hugging? Yes, this isn't one of them though. Actually, PoA is my least favorite of the movies. Sure I liked the feel of it, but they missed out on sooooooooooo much. (Extra "o"'s used because I can't bold. How can you not put in winning the Quidditch Cup?! That's HUGE! And moreso, how can you not put in an explanation of who made the Marauder's Map and why Harry's Patronus is a stag?!
The first thing would have added only 5 minutes and the latter 1.5 minutes at the most. With all the movies, 5 included, I'd gladly give up the sweeping vista shots or the overflies of Hogwarts (most definitely the season changes of the Whomping Willow in PoA) to have more of the meat of the stories and interactions between characters. (Like Snape interacting with Black and Lupin in OoTP in Black's house.)
And I called your theory "bunk" because I could think of a better phrase at the time. I should have said "holds water" or something less confrontational. Sorry about that.
While I think many of these theories are fun and all, I don't think JKR is that revolutionary of a writer to fool us so much. Many of her clues are really out in the open, which is where you put them if you don't want anyone to find them. And she draws so much on traditional literary conventions that it is easy to predict things.
For instance, in HBP, I knew that Harry was going to have a "Cave" experience. If I recall, Beowolf had one. King Arthur did. Frodo actually had it twice in LOTR. Heck, even Luke Skywalker in Empire Strikes Back had one. It is a convention in hero literature. Another convention is that you have to have the mentor of the hero either or be removed from the story line. That's how I knew before HBP came out that Dumbledore was going to be eliminated from the story somehow. Merlin disappears for Arthur to walk on his own. Gandalf dissappears for Frodo to take the challenge on alone (with Samwise Gamgee). And in Star Wars, both Obi Wan Kenobi and Yoda before Luke is to face Darth Vader.
These are just a few conventions with hero literature. (Like Hermione and Ron hooking up just like Han Solo and Princess Leia. I had a friend who argued that Hermione was going to end up with Harry. But it's been clear since book one that that wasn't going to happen.)
My final prediction for DH... Every survivor is going to need years of counseling and therapy to deal with the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder they most certainly have after all this is done. Heck, Harry should have had that since the end of Book 4.

I don't believe anyone has mentioned the house elfs and their role in the last book. I'm excited to read how they be involved in using thier magic to fight against Voldemort.
On that note, I think Dobby for Harry.

sirius has to live well come back anyway so i reckon that 'ly hallows' has something to do with the people behind the veil because he was alive when he fell through also i dont know whether harry live because after he s voldemort (which he has to as all of the books have been leading up to this) i cant imagine him settling down for a normal life working nine to five or maybe he'll keep on fighting evil as dumbledore once said you can never get rid of it just keep it at bay (or something to that effect) i also think either ron or hermione to balance out the happiness harry have from sirius coming back BECAUSE HE IS COMING BACK!

ok, to all the people who say harry is a horcrux or his scar is a horcrux or one of his bodyparts is think of it like this.
1: voldemort couldn't have made harry a horcrux by accident because you need to do a spell and everything it can't just happen by accident.
2: if you think voldemort made harry a horcrux on purpose: why would he? voldemort is not that stupid. also voldemort made horcruxes important things 'trophies' dumbledore called them.
for example the locket was a symbol that he was slytherins descendant and the diary was that HE was the one who opened the chamber of secrets.
what symbol is harry?
