Final Deathly Hallows Debates: Who Lives and Who Dies?

We know for sure that some characters are going to die in Deathly Hallows. Last year in an interview, J.K. Rowling said that two characters die who she had not originally thought would die in the end of the story. That means at least two characters die, but probably more. And that's probably not counting Harry and/or Voldemort. So who lives and who dies? Tell us who you think will die, and more importantly, why you think so.

What if the prophecy has been misinterpreted? What if it actually means that neither can truly live their life properly while the other survives. Voldemort clearly is not "living" his life and is spending it trying to Harry and gather followers. Harry on the other hand, has been unable to live his life because he is so focused on defeating Voldemort. 1st of all, Harry spends his entire 2nd year at Hogwarts affected by Voldemort. Tom Riddle (Voldemort's younger self) opens the Chamber of Secrets. He is also accused of being Slytherin's Heir, who is really Tom Riddle. Both of these facts ruin his second year. In his 5th year, Harry's entire year is ruined by Umbridge, who is sent by the Ministry of Magic in order to prevent the spread of the fact that Voldemort has returned. In his 6th year, Harry spends a lot of his time with lessons with Dumbledore because of Voldemort. In addition, he spends the entire year obsessing over Malfoy because he thinks (and is correct) that Voldemort has given Draco a task but Harry is unable to get any proof. Because of this, his friends think he's panicking too much and they get tired of hearing his theories. Also, Harry ends his relationship with Ginny because he is worried about what Voldemort do to her if he finds out. So maybe Harry is not necessarily the one destined to Voldemort, but instead, he s in the process of trying to Voldemort and in the process, weakening Voldemort enough so that one of his friends him. I think that that be Neville as there is so much about him being the other "Chosen One." What if he actually is the "Chosen One?"

This is the response for the person who wanted proof that Harry's wand is holly and not yew. If you go to J.K.Rowling official site - Harry Potter and more click on FAQs and then extra, then miscellaneous, then WANDS and she clearly explains that she gave Harry the right wand to start with.

people i think
1.voldemort obviously she cant leave the series in a cliffhanger
2.one of the dursleys
3.dobby expressing his gratitude towards "mr. harry potter sir!"
4. snape you cant be a double crosser without paying the price.
i also believe these are curious
1.what did that howler to aunt petunia in the order of the phoenix mean?
2why are there not really any vampires in the series?
3.is mrs figg going to have a big part to play in the ly hallows?
4is dumbledore definitely because the avada kadavra looked different from all the other times and if he is alive is he an animagus?
5. the dementors have a part to playing the final battle and harry go for ginny or cho chang
any of the weasleys ?

After reading all the books and many of the comments here I do not believe that Harry, Hermione, or Ron in the final book. I think that Dumbledore is definitely and that Snape is a good guy and ed Dumbledore by his orders and has been working for him since Harry was a baby because he loved Lily Evans Potter dearly. My guess in response to the ones that be Voldemort, Snape, Lupin, Tonks, and possibly Hagrid (but I highly doubt Hagrid would be ed off) and/or one of the Weasley children but not Ginny. I think J.K. Rowling is going to give us a happy ending for Harry and his friends as he has earned it. I think he marry Ginny and Ron marry Hermione and they live happily ever after. Neville become a Herbology professor at Hogwarts and may possibly marry Luna. I think that Malfory survive and become friends with Harry in the end. I think Harry is a horocrux without a doubt. I can't wait to see what happens this weekend. If I am wrong I be so sad, but I just don't think J.K is going to end it like that. It doesn't fit with the spirit of her earlier writing. I guess we know soon enough.

This is in respose to Michael Vergerio from Knoxville,TN:

You said:

You are correct. He DID have a wand made of Holly with a phoenix feather inside. I guess Celtic traditions have that Holly wood repells evil while the Yew wood symbolizes and resurrection. Since the wand chooses the owner, it makes sense that Harry would have one made of Holly with a Phoenix feather inside and Lord Voldemort would use a Yew wand with a Phoenix feather inside. Another example of how the author took ancient symbolism and used it in here book.

Thank you for straightening this out. My reference was the wikipedia, which of course was wrong.

I so hope that the trio survives, and Kellie W: Neville musnt marry Luna! i think that Harry should marry either Luna, Cho or Hermione and i think Ron should marry either Lavender, Pavarti or Padma. i think Neville should marry Ginny...i think they like each other. i think Snape ...(hopefully Snape s because he is such a traitor...) and the second person that probably be Neville... i hope Luna doesnt , she is my fave character!

Kellie, I really like your prediction. I would be really happy to go along with that, Let's hope!

I wondered, when she said some people would be unhappy, that it was the anti-Snape brigade and how wrong they would be... I'm definitely a Snape and Lilly thinker...

i think harrys a horucrux, sirius come back, pettigrew s voldemort (after harrys old him to after he s himself to get rid of the horucrux).
oh, and he'll use harry's wand and his silver hand

Posted by kiah from tasmania on July 20, 2007 02:43 AM

i think that ron s (trying to save hermione), snape s (betraying the dark lord), harry is about to be ed but then its found that he is a horcrux,

lucius s, draco goes mad, luna s, narcissa becomes good.

and in the end... harry turns over to the dark side!
