Final Deathly Hallows Debates: Who Lives and Who Dies?

We know for sure that some characters are going to die in Deathly Hallows. Last year in an interview, J.K. Rowling said that two characters die who she had not originally thought would die in the end of the story. That means at least two characters die, but probably more. And that's probably not counting Harry and/or Voldemort. So who lives and who dies? Tell us who you think will die, and more importantly, why you think so.

I would like to point out it could equally as possibly mean that after the news getting out about 2 characters ing, JK was assuring those two actors they weren't the ones...

I believe that Ron and Hermione are destined to .
In the end one of the eaters hermione (not voldemort as he believe it would be beneath him to worry about a mudblood) upon seeing hermione ron rush over to her, crying and tell the figure about how much he loves her and never had the chance to tell her so. driven mad by the sight of hermiones untimely demise ron go on a massive eater ing spree and get ed in action.
Gwarp is going to as he has never been much more than a one line wonder. He saving his older brother hagrid which break hagrids huge heart.
Remus Lupin is a goner! not only is he a father figure to harry (which is a job as cursed as DADA teacher) but he is also the last marauder and probably a very poetic as it suits his character but before he s there be some very fluffy moment with tonks telling him that being a werewolf isnt the worse thing in the world.
Bill and fluer survive because after so much and destruction their love be a symbol of hope in a new world. like a flower blossoming out of dirt, something beautiful coming out of something ugly.
for harry and ginny my scar senses are signalling a very romeo juliet such as: harry hears that ginny has been taken prisoner by the eaters and later that voldemort ed her. filled with purpose he storms the riddle mansion and has a one-on-one confrontation with voldemort. harry s voldemort but is seriously damaged. he staggers down to the cellers where he finds ginny lieing on a stony slab. mistaking her for his whole system just... gives up in way and he s lying next to her. she awakes and sees harry after crying for awhile she takes his wand and s herself. very poetic.
the new minister also . so snape and wormtail. wormtail because of his dept he swore in PoA and Snape becuase i like to think he neutral, not good or bad he's just an self-preserving prat, so in the end he redeems his sins and helps harry... then s.
Draco is going to as well (i love him though *cries softly for a while* he's so hot and evil and bad boyness) but he switch over to the good side because he believes harry can save him and his family, but harry can't and draco probably ends up acting like a spy or something then gets ed.
various eaters , and the rest be hunted down.
oh and mad eyed moody too

nasty business this...

If Harry does not Die, He has to at least lose all his magical powers.

He is so determined to be an Auror, that if JK lets him live on as a fully functioning wizard, there are many more books that could be written of his adventures fighting evil... (ie. the new, non Fleming, James Bond Novel), Exactly what she wants to avoid!

I think both Harry and Voldemort . Harry has too much to live with if he survives and if Voldemort lives, the book wont have a proper ending. These are the s I'm sure of. I don't want to think about who else .

If Harry is to it has to be the ultimate sacrifice--i.e. his ensures that Voldemort is destroyed and evil is vanquished--otherwise, there is no point here.

Perhaps Harry doesn't , but pulls a Frodo and takes the ship to the "other side". In otherwords, he passes through the veil and joins his parents and godfather and Dumbledore instead of in the world of life. He takes the next great adventure, leaving Hogwarts in the hands of Ron and Hermione.

Now, how is Voldemort ed? Can these students actually harness the Avada Kedavra? Harry couldn't even hurt hurt Bellatrix LeStrange with the Cruciatis Curse immediately after she ed Sirius, so how is he going to Voldemort with an Avada Kedavra? None of the other students do this, either, given how much damage ing does to the soul.

Here are some ideas:

An adult does the ing. Snape comes to mind, sort of like a Darth Vader/Emperor scene in Star Wars Return of the Jedi. Sirius Black comes back as a dog through the veil, perhaps? Dumbledore is really alive? I can't think of any other character that would be worthy to destroy Voldemort.

How about with a weapon? I'm thinking of the Gryffyndor sword that was used in Chamber of Secrets. Would continue the Gryffyndor/Slytherin feud to the finish.

What I think happens, though, is that the Dementors suck out the soul of Voldemort and the horcrux part of Harry's Scar. I think the 'clue' that was accidentally put into PoA was at the lakeside where Harry and Sirius were being ed by the dementors--in that scene Harry has two souls being sucked out of him, one from the forehead, one from the mouth...this also would explain why the dementors were after Harry non-stop...they felt the presence of Voldemort in his scar. The dementors were made to Dark Wizards...now all Harry has to do is gain control of the dementors.

I think Draco's parents are ed by other Eaters/Voldemort and Draco joins sides with Harry. I think Harry "sees the good" in Draco, convinces him that Voldemort was a half-blood anyways, and gives him a chance to make things right. Powerful redemptive themes here.

Snape must be present in order to give Harry a final piece of information of sacrifice himself to secure Voldemort for the dementors. How this plays out be fun to watch...

As one of the numerous fans of Harry Potter series I won't like at least harry and / or his friends to . Howeevr as JK Rowling has declared that at least two of the characters I have different ideas considering different theories that go in my mind. The different characters that I think can are:

First Set:
- Harry Potter (as he might be the last Horcrux)
- Lord Voldermort (he has to or how else would the proverbial good triumphs over evil would hapen)

Second Set:
- Ginny Weasley
- Harry Potter
- Lord Voldemort

May be the lovers meet their end together finishing off Lord Voldemort in the process.

Third Set:
- Ron Weasley
- Hermione Granger
- Neville Longbottom

Highly likely as they are Harry's best friends and Neville is the one who could have been the chosen. In fact in the last two novels his character has somewhat come out in better light

Fourth set - The bads:
- The Malfoys
- Belaltrix Lestrange
- Lord Voldemort
- Wormtail

Fifth Set - Father Figures:
- Hagrid
- Lupin
- Mr. & Mrs Weasley

By the way I suppose whoever s it has to be the end of Lord Voldemort at least.

you know what?
After rereading the entire series, i've come to the conclusion that i very much WANT HARRY TO DIE. You see, he has sufferd so much during his live it's a miracle that he isn't heavily depressed (the power the dark lord knows not). I think the greatest reward for harry would be to be reunited with DUmbledore Sirius Cedric and, ofcourse his parents.

I'm guessing that Ginny and Ron probably - Ginny has such a close relationship with Harry, that it seems inevitable. Harry definitely , and he'll fighting Voldemort, I'm sure. Lupin may or may not ... I suppose he is the last of the Marauders, and is also close to Harry, but Lupin has suffered a lot, and Rowling might not want to "repeat" Sirius's . (Sirius also suffered a lot before he d.) I'm now sure that Dumbledoor is , and that Severus turn out to be "good" after all. He most likely saving Harry, though, or trying to help Voldemort. I do believe that Hermione survive- at least one of the trio has to live- and Hagrid and Grawp might parish, but I'm not sure. I doubt that Hagrid, Lupin, Grawp, Ron, and Ginny would all . I think that seems like too many s. But then again, how can I predict anyone's writing completely accurately? In my free time I write and I wouldn't hesitate to that many characters, so I guess I shouldn't put it past her. I think Hagrid has a better chance of making it through.

Someone who was going to survive, now doesn't...
The last word was going to be "scar", now it isn't...

Draw your own conclusion.

honestly? I think that JKR is toying with our emotions. She's gonna let us believe that Harry s, let us get worked up and then after we've read the book, turn around and say "did you REALLY think I'd let him ?!".
but seriously, im thinking one of the weasleys, hagrid, maybe lupin, moody, and definitely voldemort.
but i refuse to believe in any of the trio .

Posted by Raani from California on July 17, 2007 06:59 AM

about who s you know that it be the main characters. so we can confine it to a short list:

harry
voldemort
ron
hermione
snape
hagrid
macgonagal
sirius
neville
ginny
malfoy

i think these are the most important characters. also add dumbledore and sirius (both if not really). i think this is the top priority list. among this i think voldemort and any other have equal chance. the story end happily only if voldemort perishes.
