Final Deathly Hallows Debates: Unanswered Septology Questions

 Like Hogwarts Castle itself, the Harry Potter books hold many mysteries, and have many hidden secrets. Hopefully, most of these mysteries will be answered in the final book. Is something funny going on at St. Mungos? What ever happened to Sirius' two-way mirrors? Where is Fawkes? There are so many others. The only time that it's explicitly mentioned is when Harry is left on the Dursleys's doorstep with the letter from Dumbledore, and then again when the Howler arrives in the Dursleys's kitchen, but that's not to say that he hasn't contacted her before. The Dursleys undoubtedly play a huge role in this final book, especially since it's not set at Hogwarts. Harry's going to have to leave their home for the final time. Question: Why, in the fourth book, when Harry and Voldemort's wands have the Priori Incantatum effect, does Voldy's wand only regurgitate the remnants of Avada Kedavra spells? Does that mean that that is the only spell he's done in the last 17 years? We know it can show other spells because the Prior Incantum spell is used after the Quidditch World Cup when Harry's wand shows the Dark Mark spell. So why did Voldemort's only show the ings? I have a guess for that: From the name of the effect, "priori incantatem", one might think all previous spells would be regurgitated, but it also makes logical sense that since Voldemort cast the AK as the priori incantatem happened, that's why only AK results were regurgitated... in response to dave haber from los angeles, this cannot be the case as a ghost of the hand that voldemort makes for wormtail is the first thing to appear. i personally believe that either JKR made a mistake, there's no way to depict certain spells like the cruciatus curse, or that they were irrelevant to portray, as it would slow down the momentum of what was occurring in that scene, and the general idea of what was happening could be clearly understood Posted by envo from london on July 9, 2007 3:07 PM

Regarding the Priori Incantatum effect in Goblet of Fire -
Page 665-666 (US Hardcover): At once, Voldemort's wand began to emit echoing screams of pain (Voldemort using the Cruciatus Curse on Harry)... then - Voldemort's eyes widened with shock - a dense, smoky hand (etc, Peter's hand)... more shouts of pain (Voldemort torturing Avery - he does like torturing him, doesn't he?) then something much larger began to blossom from Voldemort's wand... (etc. the shadow) of Cedric Diggory.
And so on - more screams of pain (his earlier torture of Peter), Frank Bryce, Bertha Jorkins, James and Lily... oops sorry, I've got an old version... Lily then James. The only one I don't see, actually was the Imperius Curse he placed on Harry, and missed Avada Kedavra's. I would guess that Imperious would be very difficult to manifest a shadow of, but all other successful spells up to Lily and James are accounted for. Just want to say to Carl from Birmington, Draco Malfoy and Voldemort can't be related because in HBP it was said that tom riddle was the last riddle. This means no one related to him is left unless he has a secret love life which I highly doubt. Posted by Betsy from New York on July 9, 2007 9:04 PM
Potential dumb question, but I'd like others thoughts as I keep going round in circles. Why was Voldemort after Slughorn? I always thought Dumbledore wanted Slughorn, A) for the whole horcrux memory, and B) to protect him. However now I'm questioning exactly what Slughorn was being protected from. Is it simply that Slughorn may now have realised Voldemort has horcruxes due to his resurrection, so Voldemort wants him out of the way? Why not him earlier? For me it doesn't really make sense to go after Slughorn now, unless Voldemort knows Dumbledore is also after Slughorn. One then needs to ask, what exactly does Voldemort know, does he in fact know Dumbledore may be onto his horcruxes? Maybe Harry doesn't have the head start we thought. Dumbledore says that love is really important, and it is a powerful type of magic right?
So Snape, who was neglected by his parents, and made fun of at school, has never really had love in his life.
If Dumbledore offers him a job at Hogwarts then is showing trust and faith in him, probably something that no-one has ever shown towards him, so I think that Snape sort of sees Dumbledore as like a father, (loves him.)
So this prompts me to ask, WHY DID HE KILL HIM!? If Dumbledore had shown kindness and trust towards Snape that nobody had ever showed him before, then i think this strengthens the argument that Snape did not in fact dumbledore. Posted by Tarz from Sydney, australia on July 10, 2007 01:54 AM
I have a feeling that the Eaters leave Voldy, who fight a lone battle. One of the first comments were about the pensieve that was guarding the fake horcrux. envo and raow, i was wondering myself whether we'll see the "Boa constrictor" again? What use is Didalus Diggle for the OOP? How did slughorn know that tom riddle is voldemort? dumbledore says that when tom riddle returned after many trannsformations not many identified him. as a matter of fact how did dumbledore identify him? through legilimens?
