Dumbledore's Horcrux
 by Jan-Marie Spanard
How does a wizard learn about the existence and properties of Horcruxes? Who knows what they are, how to make them, what they can do? What wizard would make a Horcrux? Under what circumstances? And for what reasons? And why are they so evil? Hermione is working very hard to answer these questions. As Hogwarts virtual library search-engine, she is coming up empty. But Tom Riddle did it, somehow.

It's just not possible. It would go against everything he has ever said about and the value of life. The whole series has this theme of and the fear of . A refusal to accept it as a part of the natural order. Dumbledore stands for that natural order, and there is no way he would violate it. Suggesting that he would be worried about the Order being able to carry on without him would seem like an excuse to disguise fear. Dumbledore trusted the Order and he trusted Harry to be able to finish the job without his physical presence. If Rowling has said that he be in the seventh book then he be, but it may be through the portrait or possibly the Pensieve. He may well have left a store of information for Harry. More memories that explain what he was up to, in the event of his . Someone asked Rowling at some point if Harry would ever have another pet. The answer was yes. At first I assumed she meant Buckbeak after Sirius d, but Hagrid seems to be dealing with him. Maybe it be Fawkes. He's important somehow. I'm wondering if he has the power to make the ultimate sacrifice and transfer his power of rebirth to Harry. After all, Voldemort could accidentally transfer power to Harry in the failed attempt to him as a baby so that sort of thing can happen. Maybe Fawkes can do it on purpose. If Dumbledore made a horcrux (which I don't believe), and then planned his via Snape, he would have a plan in place to provide a place of residence for his displaced soul. He could either possess someone who was present at the scene, or transfer his soul to another holding object, such as the plain old locket in his pocket, until everyone believed him and gone. Then someone in on the plan could rebirth him similar to Voldemort. I don't believe it but it is not outside the realm of possibility. It's kind of hard to believe that Dumbledore would try to inhabit someone elses body, and doubt that he would make use of such Dark Magic as the one Voldy used to come back to life. Posted by Emilio from Mexico City, Mexico on March 30, 2007 12:53 PM

Having seen the new book art, I am inclined to believe that there is fire evident, that Hogwarts and the Forbidden Forest are burning and that Dumbledore did indeed plan to and somehow return. Not because he made a horcrux, but as a Hallow. When he and Snape were arguing about Snape doing what he agreed to do, they were in the Forest. Why? What business did they have there? I think there is some site of importance within the Forest placed there by the founders. -- We know there are many magical creatures who live/reside in the Forest -- The Forest is one of the few things forbidden by Dumbledore himself. The only other one I can think of is the third floor corridor when Fluffy was there. -- The Ford Anglia went into the Forest -- Dumbledore states that he would trust Hagrid with his life (to McGonagall in PS, while waiting for Hagrid to arrive with baby Harry). Hagrid is the only character who has an ongoing connection with the Forest. I think these two things mean something but I am still working it out. Somehow Dumbledore's "afterlife" in the Forest have something to do with his placing Hagrid in this position of trust (with pink umbrella intact). I don't think I support this theory. Because a Horcrux can only be created if the person is ed with the supreme act of evil. It cannot be created if the person simply s the other, be it for good purposes. If that was so, then almost all the aurors would have more than say 10 horcruxes each. Now,that doesn't work does it? Horcruxes require DARK magic, and the term dark refers to evil. I think we should get over the fact that Dumbledore is gone, and nothing can bring him back. I have another theory though. Since Dumbledore has a portrait of him in his study, then he can guide Harry, can't he? Portraits can think, as we all know. And they are capable of talking. this is a really perfect theory. especially the point of evil wizard who dumbledore defeated. i was thinking that dumbledore has a horcrux. but i couldnt find whom did he ed to make that. but this theory explains it. and in somewhere of book 6 dumbledore says that only one wizard make only one horcrux. but doent mention who he/she is. Eray-- I don't think that Dumbledore has a Horcrux, because of the introduction to Magick Moste Evile. "Of the Horcrux, the most wicked of all invention, we neither speak nor give any direction..." So I doubt that Dumbledore would have a Horcrux. I think it was Grindelwald, the Dark Wizard that Dumbledore defeated. Posted by Ashley from Missouri on April 1, 2007 8:49 PM
Patty from Quincy,
I like your theory, I had never thought of the forest in that way, and you are right, Dumbledore never forgave anything except the forest into which, to our knowledge, only Hagrid, Dumbledore, Ron Hermione Ron, Neville Umbridge and Draco have gone in, and the 3rd floor when Fluffy was there.
I keep firm in my comment that mentioned that Dumbledore is and as JKR herself said "he won't be pulling a Gandalf", that is to say, he not be coming back as he was before, but maybe as a Hallow as you mentioned.
Dumbledore definitely does not have a horcrux, but might have found another way to be available to help Harry in his quest. Posted by Emilio from Mexico City, Mexico on April 2, 2007 08:46 AM
Nobody that accepts could make a Horcrux. Dying, with a Horcrux somewhere, is even worse than becoming a ghost. At least, a ghost can be accepted, move by itself, speak and so on. A wandering soul can only possess animals, other people, or use the worst dark magic to get a new body.
We know that Dumbledore accepts . If had a Horcrux, he would be a terrible liar and that would be just unacceptable.
So, I really hope that Dumbledore has no Horcrux and doesn't come back as a ghost. It would spoil everything. Posted by herve from strasbourg on April 2, 2007 09:21 AM
Herv from Strasbourg,
I couldn't agree more with you, on your last comment (April 2). I do believe we be seeing more of Dumbledore, but in the pensive, the recollections or stories that others might recount for Harry, the portrait in the principals office, or as a new type of being shown to us by JKR, but definitely not a ghost nor through a horcrux. I don't believe this theory. Dumbldore couldn't resolve in ing someone, it is too rash for his soul. V-V-Voldemort even said to dumbledore that he didnt go to the ministry to voldemort. and dunbledore agreed now why would he that little evil wizard guy and not the most powerful evil sorcerer in the world. did you ever think of that. Did anyone ever think that Dumbledore could Transfigure Grindelwald instead of ing him? Like Moody Transfigured Malfoy into a ferret, couldn't Dumbledore do the same thing to Grindelwald so that his soul wouldn't split but everyone would think that Grindelwald was ?
