Dumbledore is dead... again
 by David Haber
Almost exactly 4 years ago, as we all read the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince together for the first time, we experienced the death of Dumbledore, and this site became into being, as it was originally known as dumbledoreisnotdead.com. And now, with the release of the movie, we're reliving it, all over again.

I am wondering, JK wrote details of the Black, Malfoy, and Weasley families, but mysteriously, she didn't let us know even the name of Potters. Same point about the Grangers. Does anyone know any information? Posted by Alpha Harris from Bangladesh on September 16, 2009 03:28 AM
I always think that, books are ofcourse and obviously better than those films. It is clear that the main target of making the films is not to bring Harry's life in real; rather earn a lot and lot money. So the film makers hardly think about making a better Harry Potter world. There we can see a lot of flaws in every film. About HBP, we've already discussed a lot. Mainly Horcrux discussion, Dobby, Kreacher, Bill, Fleur, Snape, Draco...etc! But we can't say that the previous movies even PhS, CoS have not flaws. There I want to note a example from CoS. In Diagon Alley, When Harry and Hagrid met Hermione, Hermione repaired Harry's nearly broken glass with that Oculus Reparo spell. But Hermione as well as Harry, was not supposed to do magic outside of Hogwarts as both of them were underage. I personally think that, Is J. K. Rowling really happy with the films? Thank you, Anonymous, that should be it! If I don't understand something, I always think I have misread or missed something. Maximus, I have asked myself the same question a lot of times. As far as her commments go, Rowling seems to happy about the films. She particularly liked "OoTP" - saying it really brought out the dark side of the story. I mean in many ways she is right of course - the actors are excellent, the cinematography beautifully done, etc. but then it misses out on so much. In HBP and OoTP this is really tragic because it must be difficult now for them to reintroduce important storylines in DH - for example, Snape's and Neville's. Neville's fate is not explicitly mentioned in OoTH, neither is Snape's importance as the overhearer and deliverer of the Prophesy. They kind of crumbled apart what could have easily been left as a whole. I was dissappointed that Rowling didn't make them stress these points more. She is very particular about her books - so she should really translate this into her suggestions for the film work. In many ways DH now feel very awkward. I think Harry's grandfather was Charlus Potter and grandmother was Dorea Black.
We can know this from Black family tree. Charlus Potter and Dorea Black (1920-1977) had only one child. JK told that James was borned (1960) at his parents' elderly age and he was a treasure to them. Surely Dorea was 40 when James borned and certainly 40 can be introduced as elderly age for giving birth of a child. As the films go, HBP was not my favourite. I found myself getting annoyed with the added in scenes - such as the burning of the Burrow which of course prevented showing a few moments of actual plot that may have turned out to be more useful and informative. Some parts were extremely funny, and some parts were sheer brilliance. Alan Rickman and Tom Felton were superb, as indeed were most of the cast. I think HBP is one of the HP films that you need to see several times over and 'make your peace' with it. The film, as a stand alone film is good, the film as an adaptation of a fabulous book is mediocre.
As to of Dobby, I saw pictures/photo's online from The Sun newspaper that were reportedly Dobby's scene filmed in Wales. Hermione is definitely looking distraught, and there is a house elf wrapped in a blanket amongst other photos. It carried the title of Dobby's and Shell Cottage.
The only thing that worries me at the moment with regards to DH is the complete lack of information Harry has to go on regarding the Horcruxes. Mind you, if in the book Hermione can 'accio' a book on Horcruxes from Dumbledores office - then no doubt they can produce a list of them in the film. And about the opening scene, Harry was reading Daily Prophet in a muggle cafe! When Harry went to see Dumbledore, he didn't take it, as far as I can remember.
So isn't there a chance for muggles to see the Prophet? Where is the statute of secrecy?
I really want to say about the film appearance of Harry. In PoA, OotP and HBP, Harry's hair was too short and so stylish. But in SS, CoS and GoF his hair was long enough to be messy. Especially, GoF was successful in this matter. His hair was supposed to be long, always messy and not stylish. So why we didn't see it in every movie?
And his eyes, are they green? I think those are blue! So what happened to the fact, Harry Potter got his mother's eye? I think this is important when Snape wanted to see 'Lily's eyes' before . I'm afraid, in film Snape's last words be cut. Posted by Xiangzhi Abdus from Thanchi on September 19, 2009 12:00 AM
Xiangzhi, I was thinking the same about Harry's hair in the films - as you said, it is far too sleek in most of the films! They get Malfoy's style right, though. As for Harry's eyes - I don't think the colour would actually matter much in this last sequence of Snape's life - the actress who plays Lily Potter probably doesn't have green eyes either. I think they could just do a close up of Radcliffe's face and then sort of fade it out and reform it into an image of Lily, which Snape can see - and then . If they don't handle Snape's properly in the film I would let Nagini loose on Yates - if only I could... Honestly, they'll better not mess it up... I've read that there was an early decision to keep Daniel Radcliffe's own blue color rather than using lenses to make them appear green. Throughout the movies, Harry's eyes have been referred to as being like Lily's; neither has been described as having green eyes. As long as Harry's eyes look like Lily's, it doesn't matter what color they are. Their being green isn't essential to the plot or to the film. Not important to the movies, perhaps, but, IMHO, VERY important to the story! All throughout most of the septology, JK wants to lead you to suspect, even though it turns out not to be true, that Harry is the heir of Slytherin, hence Slytherin's green in his and his Mum's eyes. Actually, I never felt led-on to believe Harry was the Heir of Slytherin after CoS. I did, though, think it was cool that in the book's final duel with Voldemort, Harry of the green eyes (like the green flash of the ing curse) vanquished Voldemort of the red eyes (like the flash of ordinary spells such as expelliarmus). Rowling is such a clever writer; little double entendres like that add so much to the fun of reading the series. Here's another I enjoyed in DH: When Snape d, he wanted Harry to "look at me." Many of us agree that he wanted to see Lily's eyes as he d. I think, too, that he was asking Harry to look at him, the real him, in the memories he'd just released to Harry. I may have mentioned that in the Snape discussion. Posted by Alice from Newark on September 21, 2009 05:26 AM
Dumbledore is an extraordinary character. I wish she would do a prequel of his life. That would be so exciting! I don't think it would take anything away from the HP series, just only add to it! I loved your horcrux idea tho that was very clever. I also miss Fawkes! Ahh I'm so depressed the series is over... it was a fun ride tho and thank you for this site Posted by Mian from New York on September 21, 2009 6:40 PM
I am not sure JK should go down the prequal road as comparisons would be made between HP and Star Wars (plus prequals have been done too oftern now, Star Wars, Batman, Terminator). HOwever, there is a perfect oportunity to do "The momoirs of Albus Dumbledore" as a kind of dirary to add to her "EXTRA" books like "Quiditch through the ages" Posted by Gareth Rees from South Wales, UK on October 10, 2009 04:34 AM
