CSI: Hogwarts

by Galadriel Waters and E.L. Fossa

It's not enough to have a feeling that Dumbledore's not dead, or to want him not to be dead. What you need is a way to prove he's not dead. We at Wizarding World Press are happy to help you work on techniques needed for doing that. Sleuthing Harry Potter has become a popular sport -- er, pastime -- for thousands of series fans.

I think that Dumbledore is definately but I also think that the portrait in the Headmaster's office help Harry and give him information to Voldemort's whereabouts and how to him.

why dont they use a timeturner and go save dumbledore that way? heck tons of people could be saved if that happened.

Posted by pumpkinator from Courtice on July 2, 2007 2:12 PM

Because there are no time turners left. Hermione very clearly states at the end of Prisoner of Azkaban that she turned hers in, and then all the time turners were destroyed during the battle at the Ministry of Magic at the end of Order of the Phoenix.

Hi all, very interesting theories! Cant wait for number 7!

Anyone put any thought into the future of our favourite characters? Jo mentions in an interview that we discover what some of the characters do in the future? My guess is Harry becomes DADA teacher. Surely! Its his destiny!

Hey Rohan-
Have you ever wondered what is going to fill up all those 700 and something pages in the book without Hogwarts? Well, Auror training takes several years. Maybe his Auror training start in the seventh book and act as a replacement for Hogwarts.
Yes, I know you need top NEWT grades that you can only obtain in your 7th year at school. But Harry has already been offered the job early, and I think it would be easy for him to arrange a deal that put him, Ron, and Hermione in Auror training early.
In years to come, after they have become successful but aging Aurors, they retire. Harry and Hermione become professors at Hogwarts, Harry DADA and Hermione Charms (113% on her 1st year Charms exam, remember). Ron have retired earlier from Auror-ing and become a famous Quidditch player.

Joanna mentioned McGonagall's animagus form and it got me thinking. In book 5 on page 4 after mundungus apparates it ways "a cat streaked out from under a parked car..." later on page 20 Mrs Figg says "He left! Left to go see someone about a batch of cauldrons that fell off the back of a broom! I told him I'd flay him alive if he went, and now look. Dementors! It's just lucky I put Mr. Tibbles on the case!..." This reveals that the cat that streaked out from under the car was Mr. Tibbles.

How did Mrs. Figg tell her cat to watch mundungus and harry? How did the cat communicate back to her? I don't think that the cat was McGonagall (though it is possible), but what if Mrs. Figg isn't really a squib? what if she is the one that JKR said would preform magic in the seventh book?

Also, Mundungus is loyal to dumbledore because he got him out of a tight spot, right? what if that tight spot was whatever he did to get banned from the Hog's Head? Dumbledore might have had some influence over his brother Aberforth (who I belive is the barman and owner of the pub).

Someone earlier mentioned about Dumbledore's pleading at the end of the 6th book. Some others mentioned Peter pettigrew maybe taking dumbledore's place via polyjuice potion therefore explaining his bad hand. Assuming this is true, the pleading could have been Wormtail pleading about Lily and James' s.
'It's all my fault, all my fault'
'Please make it stop, I know I did wrong, oh, please make it stop and i'll never, never again..'
'Don't hurt them, don't hurt them, please, please, it's my fault, hurt me instead...'
'Please, please, please, no... not that, not that, I'll do anything...'
It sounds like he is begging Voldemort to not his friends. Also does anyone have any idea why voldemort wasn't going to Lily?

Wormtail taking Dumbledore's place using Polyjuice Potion does not explain his withered hand. Here is why.

In the fourth book, it clearly states that Wormtail cuts off his LEFT hand; the LEFT hand is recreated in silver shortly afterward. Read this part if you don't believe me.

Dumbledore's RIGHT hand is the withered hand. It says so several time in the 6th book.

I have a question about the memories Dumbledore and Harry looked at in book 6.

For example, in Hokey's memory with Hepzibah Smith, we see Hokey. Harry clearly describes Hokey as wearing a crisp linen toga and having really wrinkly skin.

How the hogdoogles could Hokey's memory show what Hokey looked like? As far as I know, nobody can see a situation from outside their own perspective...

It was the same way in Dumbledore's memory. We should never have been able to see Dumbledore's flamboyantly cut purple suit, because we should have been seeing everything from behind Dumbledore's eyes.

Just a thought.

When we see memories through the pensieve, they are always shown from an omniscient perspective, that is, we see them from a total outsider's point of view. I would guess that this is because your memory of a particular occasion is comprised of more that what you could actually see (including, no doubt, what you yourself looked like).

first off, thank you kate for mentioning princess bride, that makes me very happy, and the strange thing is, all of the different theories, including the one where he's just all the way down to not or only mostly , i have found not one, not one that makes complete sense to me. i believe snape didn't do the avada kedavra which means he's hiding something but i can see no good enough reason for dumbeldore to ingly or fake his , for the simple fact that, yes, he has unfinished business and the world needs him, and him like zap everyone's hope like a lot. not destroy it, but i can't see how it would help for him to only seem like he was . and i can't see how snape would be evil. so i don't think any of the theories make any sense whatsoever.

About Wormtail and the silver hand, in the movie he cuts off his right.
