An Introduction to Arithmancy

by David Haber

Arithmancy is one of Hermione's favorite subjects at Hogwarts, because it is a very precise, measurable and almost scientific method of predicting the future. Arithmancy is a method of divination by numbers first used by the ancient Greeks. Today, Wizards can use arithmancy to help predict trends in the future.

"It's really interesting that "Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore" and "Tom Marvolo Riddle" give the same result in the Arithmancy Calculator. What could this mean?"

this post just means something, I know is the most stupd thing you could imagine, but I think Dumbledore and Voldemort are the same person, or clones, or something like it, becuse they are so alike, powerful, intelligent, and how Dumbledore learnt so many things about Voldemort, there is got to be something...

My numbers with my first and last name came out to 9-6-3, the same as the alphabet. And to those people who mentioned having the same number as their best friend, that's amazing. The odds of that are 1 in 729. Also, I want to know if middle names should be included. I don't think they should unless they are used commonly as your name. I think even if you are usually called by your middle name or a nickname in place of your first name it should be whatever you are called, it sort of shapes your personality. Like if a person named Joseph Doe is called Joe Doe, his numbers should reflect the name "Joe Doe".

I don't know if it is important or not, but Harry - on its own produces the character 7 - the most powerful magical number, Neville on its own also produces the character 7. In fact the name HArry and the name Neville produce the same three number combination of 7 1 6

Also, in the hebrew alphabet they use letters for numbers, the letters for 18 mean life. Another complete number!

I typed my sisters name in and the results were 8, 5, 3. It's so true!

My number is always 9 (according by Piphagores table). And Ive used Russian alphabet (Im Russian, of course). I was born on the 9th of September, 1989. And I can show you a lot of examples of 9s in my life I was born on the 9th of September, 1989.Too many 9s, I suppose

Why does this work for everyone else but not me

I looked up my name and it described me perfect. Then I looked up my friend and it was nothing like her. we didn't even have a single same number.

To top it all of, if you put our names together, you get

Character: 7- hardworking
Heart: 4- good at organizing
Social: 3- completeness/wholeness

when we are together all we do is sit and talk so we are not hardworking. neither of us have a clean room and are doing our homework minutes before class starts so forget organizing. and we DEFINATLY dont complete each other (we are opposites even without the chart)

What does that mean?

I also tried my nickname and it is me. I've had that nickname my whole life.

did you know that lucius malfoy is a 4,4,9?
I do not see this in him, do you?

Aberforth Dumbledore is a 3-4-8, and Emmeline Vance is a 4-3-1. Too bad arithmancy doesn't help us identify characters....
