A forbidden peek at young James and Sirius

 J.K. Rowling's 800 word prequel to the Harry Potter story, which she wrote for charity and which sold at auction for $50,000, was posted online last month by UK bookstore Waterstone's. You can read it online or see it in J.K.'s own hand here.
In this brief glimpse of a story, James and Sirius are being chased, and run afoul of the muggle police. Who was chasing them? And does their nonchalance with the muggle police give us an insight to James' upbringing? Did he possibly have a muggle childhood like Hermione?

Since the police wouldn't know what a golden stitch looked like and the story was seen through police men's eyes, then maybe it was the golden snitch. And the police man just discribed it as a bird for that was what he thought it to be-- remember it was night time-- He couldn't have got that close of a look at it. I think the three men on broom sticks had already been chasing them. It was more them they were trying to get rid of then they were the police-- did they not thank the police. James didn't play chaser, he played seeker. Thats why he had nicked a snitch and was letting it go and catching it again when harry visited the memory in the pensive. I think it's a snitch on the shirt Posted by Me on July 15, 2008 6:57 PM

Can anyone answer for me... where Sirius acquired his motorcycle?
It seems like a distinctly Muggle mode of transportation, Arthur-Weasley-ed to have magical characteristics. Did he buy it with some of the money left to him by his Uncle Alphard? And if so, when and where?
Also, where did it "live" after Hagrid rescued baby Harry from Godric's Hollow? Hagrid had it then, but around that same time -- before, during, after? -- Sirius met Peter Pettigrew on the street...so he couldn't get the bike back immediately. I don't think that the emblem on the t-shirts were snitches. Snitches are not birds. At first I thought that they might be phoniexs and that they were a part of the order of the phoniex but even they are stupid enough to boast about being part of the Order during a time of trouble. The Order only existed during times of trouble. However, I'm at a loss for an explanation about what exactly the emblem is.
