Harry Potter and the Beginning of the End: Chapter 2

And so it goes. All we have left now are the last few final milestones.

On December 22, J.K. Rowling surprised us all with the title of the final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Yesterday, the final Harry Potter book publication date was announced, July 21, 2007, a few days more than ten years after the original publication in the UK of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (June 26, 1997).

So, all we have left now, before we get the actual books on Saturday night, July 21, is release of the US and UK covers of the books, and then, probably as the answer to puzzles on J.K.'s official web site, perhaps a snippet or two from the book.

It's been a wild ten-year ride, although I must admit here publicly that I've only been aboard the ride for about five of those years. I can place the time because I remember, for Christmas one year, a boss gave me a gift certificate for Barnes & Noble. To use the gift certificate, I finally succumbed to the hype and bought all three Harry Potter books which were then available in paperback. I read them all in about a week! I immediately then went and caught the first Harry Potter movie which was still in the theatres at that time, but just barely. (I saw it twice, the last time making a special trip to see it on the last day of its run at my local theatre.) That was December, 2001.

And, as they say, the rest is Herbology. :-)
